Did You Know The arts and culture nonprofit sector is made up of 1,271 organizations. That’s 10% of all nonprofits in the San Diego region! This sector holds $1.6 billion in assets and employs 3,716 workers.

At the same time, data shows that 85% of these organizations are small, with an annual budget of $1 million or less. One-third of arts nonprofits reported weak financial health in 2026.

Though many arts and culture nonprofits operate on limited budgets, the sector meaningfully contributes to San Diego’s economic and community infrastructure.

Last week, Kimberly Fields retired from The Nonprofit Institute after nearly a decade of dedicated service. We are deeply grateful for her leadership, insight, and commitment to advancing our Governance Awards, supporting our Advisory Board, and strengthening partnerships across the San Diego community.

Kim’s contributions have left a lasting impact on our work and the communities we serve.

We wish her all the best in this next chapter, with more time for gardening, family, and volunteering with the 5th Judicial CASA Program Idaho.

Thank you, Kim. đź’™
