We’re still together — 55 years married as of June 17 — and committed to each other. Thank you, Father God for bringing us together! I am truly blessed that she said, “Yes,” the week before I deployed to Vietnam a second time. We were married by MCB 121, Seabee Chaplain Starr in the base chapel in Gulfport, Mississippi. Ken Renner was my best man. My sister Ruth Ann was Glenda’s bride’s maid. Other family attending were: Glenda’s mom and dad, Darel and Genevieve Melton and Betty Melton from San Diego, and Ruth’s son Jeff. The restaurant where we dined with family and the hotel we stayed in on our wedding nite were destroyed two months later in Hurricane Camille. We lost two cars — a new VW and a Cherry ‘57 Chevy and spent that night in an upstairs brick apartment with 200 mph winds and 4 ft waves swelling over the parking lot. We’ve had plenty of tough times in our life together but survived. Now we’re enjoying the blessings and rewards, and I’d marry you again no question! Love, Jim.
