“Ami, what do you do” Part 3

In my journey, specifically my healing journey as a trauma survivor, I found that what pulled me out of darkness so many times was getting back in touch with my body.

When I was in a bad place, I injured myself pretty bad. A personal trainer friend of mine helped me to start changing my lifestyle, to start making better choices, and ultimately, overtime, I was able to learn to be in my own body. This is something that was not historically safe or known to me.

Getting into the gym and eating differently, taking care of myself, unlocked a power that I didn’t realize I had.

When I realized just how powerful this was, I knew I wanted to help other people in this way. Specifically, other trauma survivors. And that is why I became a personal trainer and life coach.

Now, I am able to provide holistic health coaching, both online and in person. I get to help people honor their bodies and for some, step in to their own bodies fully, for the first time. I get to help people realize and grow their own strength; physically, mentally, and emotionally.

I specialize in trauma responsive, holistic health coaching. Sometimes this means teaching proper form and workouts in the gym; pretty much all of the time it means teaching my clients about food; and sometimes it’s helping my clients forgive themselves when they just need to take some time to rest.

To me, all of this work has the same mission: decrease harm, increase resilience; decrease trauma, abuse, and its symptoms; increase health, healing, and happiness for as many people as possible.

“Ami, what do you do?” Part 2

Professional Development.

I provide professional development for businesses, non profits, government agencies, public agencies, law enforcement, schools, etc

I do workshops/breakout sessions, Keynote speaking, online and in person trainings.
I will travel basically anywhere to do so and for almost any audience.

My most frequent topics:
LGBTQIA+, Trauma Responsive Care, intersections of Survivorship: CSEC, HT, DV, youth, LGBTQIA+, Culture and Bias, Instigating Resilience with Youth, ACEs, and wellness like Self-Care for Care Providers, Stress and Time Management, and Maintaining Optimism and Objectivity.

I can and do create custom trainings, as requested, as long as I’m confident the topic is within my scope.

All of my trainings are interactive and utilize multiple learnings modalities (lecture, video, activity).

All of my trainings are provided in the most trauma responsive way possible and are delivered in an engaging, open way. I always hold space for questions, reflections, and exploration.

I teach by modeling, including modeling curiosity.

I believe that learning can be fun and even very sensitive topics can be explored through fun and connection.

My philosophy is that personal development IS professional development and honoring our humanness is imperative to sustained growth.

I refer to my trainings as “learning conversations,” because I never want the experience with me as a facilitator to be one sided. Learning comes from engagement. My participants and I are in it together. I am a guide and facilitator, yes, but that doesn’t work if I can’t create a space of participation and engagement for the whole audience.

I have been speaking and teaching for about 16 years and my favorite parts of traveling and doing this work are the connections that are made and the positive growth the that is evident for participants and myself after every learning conversation.

If you’re tired of boring, soul sucking trainings and you’d like to know more or to book a training with me, send me a message and let’s chat about your needs and how I might help.

“Ami, what do you do?” Part 1

I specialize in LGBTQIA+ education…in many ways:

I train different entities about language, concepts, legislation, and sensitivity for professional engagement of LGBTQIA+ populations.

I do this for businesses, non profits, foster agencies, behavioral health, public health, schools, and law enforcement. Basically, anyone who is open to it and I specialize in working with conservative communities. Being from a small, conservative, desert town myself is a huge reason why this is where I’m confident serving.

I provide a mentoring program for LGBTQIA+ youth in middle and high school which is my favorite program to offer. My kiddos are so amazing and I learn so much from them. They make me so proud and my heart so full.

I also act as a consultant to school districts who are working towards equity and inclusion for their LGBTQIA+ students and families. This is a multi-year, top to bottom program that includes policy, procedure, professional development, and training for the community at large (ie parents) around serving LGBTQIA+ students and staff in inclusive, respectful professional, and compliant ways.
This program is one I am super proud of and is lasting. Through it, we get to create tangible hand books and guidance practices for the entire district, educate and empower all staff, and we’ve created entire committees to ensure district-wide communication and support for our GSA Clubs, Advisors, and Students.

I’ve been doing LGBTQIA+, Culture & Bias, DEIB work for about 16 years now all over the state of CA and for different agencies from domestic violence to drug prevention to social justice programs.

This work means so much to me for many reasons but for one, I grew up being told that I would be hated for who I am. I was told that I’d never find a steady career because of how I express.

To now be 6 years into my own company and doing this work that burns so passionately in my spirit, and to get to see the young lives that this work benefits first hand. Grateful is an understatement.

I am so appreciative of all of my supporters, community partners, and those brave enough to hire me lol I will not let you down.

The Acadami got a facelift recently 😍😍😍

Thanks to my amazing spouse and business coach, .color.curl, The Acadami has gone through some beautiful growth and changes this past year and I am so excited to share them with you.

Because The Acadami encompasses so much, each program has its only color flame so you can easily identify which program or service category you’re exploring.

All LGBTQIA+ services including professional development, youth mentoring, and the culture and climate program for schools are under the rainbow flame (naturally lol)

All Professional Development, Law Enforcement training, and Survivorship / Trauma related work is noted with a blue flame

Acadami Coaching holistic health programming now has its own website www.acadamicoaching.com and instagram . You’ll know that by seeing the energetic orange flame

And last but not least, my Life Coaching program which does fall under Acadami Coaching as well, has its own grounding green flame

As I continue to work to expand The Acadami and help as many people as people, you can rest assured that the core of any and all Acadami services, programs, and partnerships will continue to be trauma responsiveness, inclusivity, equity, and access.

Thank you so much to all of you for support me and my company for these past 6 years. It has been the scariest and most rewarding experience. I certainly would not be here without you and I cannot wait to see what the future holds.

I appreciate you!

Honey Dipped Diamonds: A, sometimes poetic, collection of open letters from one survivor to another. 12/22/2023

Yay!!! Many years in the making and today I get to share HDD with you! https://amzn.to/48sQwUF

Honey Dipped Diamonds has been years in the making and it was a title, theme, and mission that has been loudly pervasive in my life.

I am a survivor.
I am not the only one.
I have been lucky enough to have amazing support through my journey and to get to hear healing words.
So many don’t and have not.
So with this book, my goal is to maybe, just maybe, hold that much needed space for my readers, to offer these words and my voice to you, where others were silent.

This started out as what I would want to say to my younger self, then expanded to what I want to say to my mentoring students, and then..to everyone.

This book is dedicated to anyone who has been hurt,
To anyone who is having to cope and try to heal from choices you didn’t make,
To anyone who is stuck in the pain,
To anyone who support just isn’t there for,
To anyone who has bravely taken on the lifelong battle of breaking generation chains of trauma.

To those in the thick of it now, still feeling it from before, or pushing through for a better future…these words are direct from my heart, to you.

Our stories are not our definitions.
We are not broken but, in fact, we are:
so sweet and dripping with life so much, as if:
Honey Dipped.
We are so rare and valuable, forged in fires we never asked for, as if:
Diamonds.

We are valuable.
We are WORTHY.

When you need reminding of that, Honey Dipped Diamonds will be there for you.

Much love! ❤️🙏🏼

What does it mean to "make it hard to hate?"

When Acadami Founder, Ami was 13 and came out to her mom, they had a very real talk. Her mom explained that, even though their family was accepting and loving and would do everything they could to keep Ami safe, in the world it may not be that easy. She explained that some people in the world may want to hate Ami, not because of something she did or said, but simply because of who she is. In that moment, Ami's mom asked for a promise to be made:
"Promise me," she said.
"Promise me, that you will make it hard for them, make it hard for people to hate you. Promise me that you will be so much yourself; so kind and loving and respectful. Promise me that you will continue to be the you I know you to be so much so that if someone wants to hate you, they have to really try."

That promise was made.
And now, The Acadami and all of the work that Ami is. All that they are, is dedicated to keeping that promise.

To embrace authenticity, connection, and celebrate differences.
To stay curious about ourselves and others.
To avoid passing judgement or instigating division.
To help others as much as possible in their journey to acceptance, affirmation, understanding.

That's what it means, to Make it Hard to Hate.
...and that's what we are here for.
