On this , we remember and celebrate Fred Rogers with one of his own astute observations: “Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.”

At one point or another, we have all experienced the connection and bonding that can arise when making music or dancing with another person or in a group. (Turns out, science has something to say about it!) https://www.musictogether.com/parents/music-brings-us-together?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=post&utm_campaign=01082024

Ask your parents (and grandparents) to sing their favorite songs with your little ones. Music crosses all generations.
Did you know? Singing familiar songs is also incredibly beneficial for elders with any type of memory loss. Neuroscience researchers and music therapists have long studied the role that music plays in the health and aging experiences of seniors suffering from memory and thought-processing issues, particularly associated with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. You can find more on the value of music on our Resources page: https://www.musictogether.com/about/research/resources?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=post&utm_campaign=01052024

Research suggests that young children often focus on the words in songs, affording them less access to the music, especially the tonal aspects. Singing songs without words, like “Sailing Song” from our upcoming Kazoo collection, removes the distraction of language and allows children to focus on the pitch and melody of the song!
