Next up in our Class of 2026 Grad Series is Regina M., who is headed to UC Berkeley this fall. 🎓
Regina is the first Cristo Rey San Diego student to be accepted to UC Berkeley, marking an incredible milestone for her and our school community. Over the past four years, she has grown as a student, young professional, and leader through her Work Study placements at Latham & Watkins and Buchalter. Her experience at both law firms helped inspire her goal of pursuing a law degree.
Regina has also served as ASB President, Ambassador, Campus Ministry Kairos II Retreat Leader, and a leader in the Class of 2026. This year, she received the Excellence in Work Study Award, honoring her outstanding performance across all four years of work study.
Reflecting on her CWSP experience, Regina shared:
“After spending three years working in law firms, I’ve been able to see what the legal field is really like, and it reassured me that becoming a lawyer is something I truly want to pursue.”
This fall, Regina will continue her path at UC Berkeley, bringing with her the professionalism, confidence, and communication skills she has built at Cristo Rey.

🎉 Last week brought so much fun and school spirit to campus as we celebrated Spirit Week with dress down days, our Pep Rally, and a great sendoff to the end of the spring sports season.
From fun competitions between students and teachers to all the energy and excitement on campus, it was a great way to come together as a school community as we head into the final stretch of the school year. 💙🐾

Countdown to Graduation | Dulce M. is Headed to Boston University
Next up in our Class of 2026 Grad Series is Dulce M., who is headed to Boston University this fall. 🎓
Over the past four years, Dulce has grown as a student, young professional, and college-bound leader. Through the Corporate Work Study Program, she gained real-world experience at C3, St. Therese of Carmel, and American Red Cross. At C3, she supported insurance work for a large company and was trusted with responsibilities that showed her what she is capable of in a professional setting.
Dulce was accepted to several colleges and universities, including Santa Clara University, University of Rochester, University of San Diego, Loyola Marymount University, Chapman University, Pepperdine University, UC Riverside, UC Santa Cruz, and more. After considering her options, Dulce ultimately decided to attend Boston University, excited by the opportunities in the city and the chance to experience life somewhere completely different from San Diego.
Looking back, Dulce shared how balancing school, work, and personal responsibilities helped her realize she was ready for college.
“Being able to manage all of that showed me that I could handle responsibility and push myself even when things got hard.”
This fall, Dulce will continue her path at Boston University, bringing with her the confidence, discipline, and determination she has built at Cristo Rey.

Countdown to Graduation | Leonardo Garcia is Headed to CSU San Marcos
Next up in our Class of 2026 Grad Series is Leonardo Garcia, who is headed to CSU San Marcos this fall. 🎓
Over the past four years, Leo has grown as a student, young professional, and leader. Through the Corporate Work Study Program, he gained real-world experience with American Red Cross, Precision Diagnostics, Diocese of San Diego, and Father Joe’s Villages. He has also worked hard in the classroom, shown leadership on the field through soccer and flag football, and served as a Kairos III senior retreat leader.
As Leo looks ahead to studying business management, he shared how CWSP helped shape his work ethic and goals.
“CWSP has changed the way I show up as a young professional. It has taught me accountability, responsibility, and self-discipline. In order to get the things you want, you need to work hard for them and always show up being the best possible version of yourself.”
This fall, Leo will continue his path at CSU San Marcos, bringing with him the discipline, confidence, and work ethic he has built at Cristo Rey.

✨ It is with great excitement that we celebrate Ms. Sanker, who teaches History at Cristo Rey San Diego and was honored as High School Teacher of the Year at Friday’s 11th Annual Catholic Educators Awards Banquet, hosted by the Diocese of San Diego and San Diego and Imperial Valley Catholic Schools.
Ms. Sanker was joined by fellow members of the Cristo Rey San Diego High School faculty, who were there to honor her, celebrate the other awardees, and recognize the incredible work happening across Catholic schools throughout our Diocese. This special recognition reflects the dedication, care, and excellence Ms. Sanker brings to her students and to our school community each day, and we are incredibly proud to celebrate her. 💙

🎓 As we prepare for some of senior year’s most meaningful and bittersweet milestones, we are proud to announce our 2026 Graduation Faculty Speakers chosen by the Class of 2026.
Mr. Kramer will address graduates at Baccalaureate Mass on Thursday, May 28, and Ms. Perez will speak at Commencement on Friday, May 29. Together, these two teachers have played an important role in the lives of our students through their guidance, care, and steady support throughout their four years at Cristo Rey San Diego High School.
Ms. Perez, our Studio Art and AP Art History teacher, and Mr. Kramer, who teaches Physics, Financial Algebra, and AP Calculus, were selected by the senior class in recognition of the leadership, encouragement, and lasting impact they have had on students during their time at Cristo Rey.

Year-End Recognition from American Red Cross 💙 As our work study students head into their final week of work for the school year, we are proud to celebrate the meaningful recognition they are receiving from the partners who know their contributions best.
Three Cristo Rey San Diego students were recently honored by the American Red Cross San Diego and Imperial Counties at their annual volunteer recognition event. Diego A. ’26 was named Volunteer Services Department Volunteer of the Year, Elisha G. ’28 was selected as Operations Department Volunteer of the Year, and Stephanie C. ’29 received the Operations Department Excellence in Service Award.
This recognition reflects the growth, commitment, and professionalism our students bring to their placements throughout the year. It is a meaningful way to close out another work study year and celebrate what our students have accomplished in the workplace.
We are deeply grateful to their supervisor, John Steinberger, and to the American Red Cross team for the mentorship, guidance, and support they continue to provide our students. We are proud of Diego, Elisha, and Stephanie, and grateful for the partnerships that make this kind of growth and recognition possible.

First up is Noemi R., who is headed from Cristo Rey to UC Riverside this fall.
As part of the Class of 2026, Noemi has spent the last four years growing as both a student and young professional. Through the Corporate Work Study Program, she gained real-world experience with Cultura Media, Precision Diagnostics, and Kitchens for Good, where she learned the importance of staying organized, being reliable, communicating clearly, and taking initiative.
For Noemi, balancing academics with real workplace responsibilities helped her realize she is ready for college.
“Managing real responsibilities while keeping up with school showed me that I can stay organized, handle pressure, and stay committed to my goals.”
