Gigs can go south for many reasons to include: lack of preparation, negligence, lack of skills, your own attitude, etc. Aside from an act of God, you can control the ultimate outcome of your gig with adequate preparation and your attitude towards how the event unfolds at every second.

It’s quite simple. If you don’t prepare with the right music, the event host’s requests, timeline preparation, talking to all parties involved, etc, then you are preparing to fail.

If you choose to let little things get to you (or even big things for that matter) and throw your professional demeanor out the window when something goes wrong, your gig’s results will suffer.

Stay ready, stay positive and you’ll do better than most.

Drop a real life example of a gig almost gone bad but you saved it in the comments.👇🏼

🤔[SHOULD YOU PREP YOUR WHOLE SET?]🤔
Most often NO. Yes if you’re just starting out OR the crowd is coming to see you specifically, I.E. they support you no matter what. But even then you better know your crowd so you know, everyone has a good time!

The best thing to do is to have a lot of music that you know works well together within one genre or even better multiple genres so that you can provide some variety for the crowd and you can flow with them.

If you’re a beginner, prep 3-5 songs that work well together so you get in a groove then try to freestyle after that according to the crowd.

Happy spinning!

🤔[YOU NEED SOMETHING TO BE EXCITED ABOUT]🤔
What’s it going to be?!

The key to sticking with something (besides pure discipline) is to have something that excites you enough to keep you motivated. This could be something little like working on a new trick or getting a few more followers or playing your next livestream. Obviously it could be something big too like a gig or working to make your next mix you send out to promote yourself. Whatever it is, keep it top of mind and write it down each week. That way when you don’t feel like practicing, you remember what you’re practicing for in that moment in time. It can change too!

Happy spinning!
