CUHS ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP FUND ANNUAL REPORT
MARCH 12, 2021
This CUHS Alumni Scholarship Fund began in March, 2012, and has collected over $84,091 in donations as of March 12, 2021, with more tax deductible donations continuing to be received. The Committee has awarded a total of $44,250 in scholarships to 33 deserving recipients to date. Many of our scholars have graduated from SDSU and are pursuing their dreams.
The Committee interviews candidates with excellent academic records, community involvement, and a desire to obtain a college education with limited resources. The awards typically range from $500 to $2,000. Our scholars are pursuing careers in nursing, psychology, teaching, medicine, criminal justice, and political science.
As a point of reference, tuition and books for a year at Imperial Valley College for 15 units costs about $3,000-6,000, while the same 15 units cost more than $7,500 per year at the San Diego State University-IVC Partnership program in Calexico. This does not include transportation and fees. IVC now has a program to provide housing to those students who are homeless.
For those who are interested in our expense to award ratio, the committee is proud to announce that the fund has no expenses and is administered by the Imperial Valley College Foundation under the leadership of Rod Smart. We consider this program to be among the most efficient in the country.
Donations are made to IVC Foundation for the benefit of CUHS Alumni Scholarship Fund on the Memo line of checks or via credit card or wire transfer. Rod’s business address is 380 East Aten Road, Imperial, CA 92251, tel 760-355-6113. We encourage you to contact your classmates and solicit more donations so that we can achieve our goal of becoming self-sustaining.
The Scholarship Committee would like to diversify its membership among various classes so as to ensure future leadership. Currently, most positions are held by the Class of ‘60. Volunteers are welcome and may contact any one on the committee who are listed below. Thank you for your support.
