🤗 SANDBURG FOUNDATION ANNUAL GIVING CAMPAIGN 🎉
The Foundation's Annual Campaign is LIVE!!! Did you know the Sandburg Foundation is run 100% by volunteers and donations? Did you know the events and experiences that we have planned for this school year will only happen if we meet our fundraising goals?
Help ensure that this year's Tigers get to experience all the fun things we have planned for the year by making sure we raise enough money to do so. We host two main fundraisers each year, the Annual Campaign in the fall and Jog-A-Thon in the spring. Donations made now impact what we are able to do for the rest of the 2026-2027 school year.
Did you know The Sandburg Foundation is a 501c3? This means your donation is tax deductible! Curious where your donation goes? Check out the flyer to see where donations went last school year.

Sandburg Sunday Message - August 9, 2026
Good Evening Sandburg Tiger Families!
We are looking forward to an amazing 2026-2027 school year filled with an abundance of learning, growth and fun! It was great seeing so many new and returning families at our K/TK orientation, and at our class posting and campus tours. We are excited to see all of our Tigers tomorrow. I encourage you to arrive early and plan for traffic and parking. Please be respectful of our neighbors by not blocking driveways and please follow all posted traffic and parking signs. Please read below for important first week information.
---
✨Tentative Classroom Assignments
Our school staff works extremely hard to build balanced and cohesive classrooms. Occasionally changes do need to occur to balance classroom numbers and student cohesion. In addition, occasionally changes occur due to staff allocation from the district. At this time, classroom assignments are tentative and may change. We try to make any necessary changes as quickly as possible and thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
---
✨Parent Student Handbook
The Parent Student Handbook will go home in your first week folder. We also have an electronic version linked IN THE COMMENTS. Please read it thoroughly. There is a lot of important information contained within it. Some highlights include:
1. Sandburg parking lot restrictions - The lot is only open in the morning for traffic circle and dropoff of students in our ESN program. The parking lot is reserved for staff parking and only open in the afternoon for those with disabled parking placards. Disabled parking is first come, first served. If the parking is full, you will be asked to circle the neighborhood and will only be allowed in when a spot is available.
2. Our updated Sandburg Restorative Discipline Plan is also now included in the handbook. This plan was approved at the end of last school year.
3. In accordance with student wellness and safety, food is no longer permitted for individual student birthday celebrations. Classroom teachers will share how birthdays will be celebrated in their classrooms.
4. School Attendance Policy - Students should attend school every day they are healthy enough to attend. All vacations and appointments should be scheduled during school breaks and outside of school hours. Independent study contracts should be for emergency situations and are approved at the school’s discretion. At maximum, 1 contract per student may be approved up to 15 days, but again is up to the school’s discretion.
---
✨First Week Folder
Please review, complete and sign the enrollment documents coming home in your student’s Tiger Folder on Monday. Please turn in all these documents by August 14th.
Please also remember to sign up for Parent Portal Access. Instructions, User Name and Password information are included in your students’ Tiger Folder. If you have questions about setting up your parent portal, please review the job aid link Parent Portal Job Aid (IN THE COMMENTS) or contact Robyn Allen ([email protected] or 619-605-4700) in our front office if you need additional assistance.
---
✨Student Absences and Tardies
If absent, tardy, or leaving early, please use the Attendance Email at [email protected] to inform our Sandburg office.
---
✨LCFF for 2026-2027 School Year
San Diego Unified is launching the 2026-2027 LCFF data collection and will be using PowerSchool Parent Portal. Please complete the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) form by going on PowerSchool Parent Portal (not the child’s account) at https://powerschool.sandi.net/public/.The completion of this makes a significant difference in the amount of LCFF funding the district receives and the amount of Title I funds our school will be allocated. We greatly appreciate all your efforts! If you have questions about setting up your parent portal, please review the job aid link Parent Portal Job Aid (IN THE COMMENTS) or contact Robyn Allen ([email protected] or 619-605-4700) in our front office if you need additional assistance.

✨2026-2027 Draft Event and Meeting Calendar
Attached IN THE COMMENTS is the Draft event and meeting calendar for the 2026-2027 school year. Occasionally events and meetings do have to change and we will keep this electronic version updated with any changes. This calendar also includes our additional modified days that are scheduled for staff professional development and parent/teacher conferences.
---
✨2026-2027 School Calendar
Attached IN THE COMMENTS is the San Diego Unified 2026-2027 school calendar. This calendar shows all school days, scheduled holidays and breaks. Please plan ALL family trips around this calendar, so that your child’s instruction and growth is not disrupted. Absences from school greatly impact a student’s academic progress.
---
✨2026-2027 Bell Schedule
Attached IN THE COMMENTS is the daily bell schedule for the 2026-2027 school year. Please schedule all appointments after school, so our tigers do not miss valuable instructional time.
---
✨Back to School Night
We are excited to welcome all parents to our Sandburg Back to School Night on Thursday, August 20th, from 5-7PM. This is a parent only night where you will have the opportunity to meet your Tiger’s teacher and hear about the year ahead. The schedule for Back to School Night will be sent out next week.
---
✨School Breakfast and Lunch
Breakfast and lunch will continue to be offered free of charge this school year for all students. Students may come to the cafeteria at 7:25 for breakfast each morning. Parents are not allowed in the MPR and lunch court area. Students attending breakfast must walk from the gates to the breakfast area. Staff is available to assist students and ensure they get to their appropriate line up spots. The breakfast and lunch menus are linked IN THE COMMENTS (Breakfast and Lunch). You can also check out the daily menus, nutritional and allergy information at the district’s new online portal IN THE COMMENTS. Students may continue to bring lunch from home, but students may not be delivered lunch from fast food establishments or restaurants by the parent or a food delivery company while at school. Please pack home lunches and send them with your student in the morning. If your student prefers a warm lunch they can have school lunch or we encourage you to use a thermos that can keep food warm.
---
✨Friday Morning Assembly and Principal/AP Coffee Chat
Our first Friday morning assembly to kick off the school year is scheduled for this Friday, August 14th at 7:45 AM. We encourage all parents to attend. Parents should stay outside the gate until 7:45 to allow students to arrive and get to their line-up spots. When the bell rings at 7:45, you may come in the gates and gather along the front office and front gate (behind the students who will be gathering around the flagpole). The morning assembly will be followed by our monthly Principal and AP coffee chat in the MPR. Please join us for donuts, coffee and an opportunity to chat with Associate Principal Ligon and me about important topics. If you have questions or topics you want addressed this school year, please fill out the google form linked IN THE COMMENTS.
