Interactive puppetry is a magical part of the Sing ‘n Speak Spanish program as it helps children overcome shyness and converse in Spanish. The puppet skits are usually a child’s favorite part of the lesson and they always want more! There are numerous humorous puppet skits embedded in the Year 1 and Year 2 Spanish lessons.
Many teachers don’t know how to use puppets and have a tendency to skip the skits. I encourage you to learn how to use the puppets and learn how to make the skits interactive. Once you are having more fun than your students, you are there. Go to https://singnspeak.com/tip-7-interactive-puppetry-training-video/ to view a traning video on interactive puppetry.
I hope you enjoy it!

The inspiration for Sing ‘n Speak Spanish® originally stemmed from my love of singing in Spanish (since I grew up in Mexico City) and the power songs have in aiding memory retention. In 6th grade, my English teacher taught our class a preposition song to the tune of “Yankee Doodle.” I still know it perfectly and will never forget it. As a way of saying “Thank you” to all my customers around the country, I wrote a parallel preposition song for you in Spanish. It only contains prepositions of physical location. I hope you teach it to your students with creative gestures. I would love to see video clips! Enjoy! To hear the song, go to https://singnspeak.com/tip-6-preposition-song/

Spanish students get confused on the use of SER and ESTAR (the two forms of the verb "to be") and when to use each of these. Even after a lot of review, students still get confused because this just isn't easy to internalize.
I have put together a chart that I hope will be helpful to your students. The chart is not comprehensive, but it focuses on the major distinctions which we emphasize with our elementary/middle school aged students during our teaching of these two critical verbs.

Great News!
I am delighted to announce that all the Sing 'n Speak Spanish songs from Year 1 - Year 5 Spanish are now available on iTunes as well as CD baby This is particularly important for the many schools who use our program but cannot afford to buy each student a music CD and songbook. Now you can encourage parents to download the songs into their iTunes or CD Baby library so their students can listen to them often.
To find the songs, parents should search on either “Julia Burnier” or “Patti Lozano.” The Year 1A, Year 2, and Year 5 Spanish CDs are by Patti Lozano, and the Year 1B, Year 3, and Year 4 Spanish CDs are my own.
I call my program "Sing 'n Speak Spanish" because I am a firm believer that children learn vocabulary and grammar best when it is reinforced heavily with cathy songs. You will see a huge difference in vocabulary retention, the incorporation of simple grammar structures, and of course pronunciation.

The use of gestures for many words (TPR or total physical response) is central to the way we teach Spanish with the Sing 'n Speak Spanish program. Check out this very informal video for teachers which shows the gestures we use for personal pronouns and for the most commonly used helper verbs in Spanish. We use these to introduce conjugation of verbs, to practice sentences, in games like charades, and in songs. Enjoy and see how quickly your students learn pronouns and helper verbs in your classroom.
