Joe Heinz was going to attend the John Beam Memorial Golf Tournament announcement today, sadly he passed away. Just a great man and a friend of Kearny High.

John Beam Memorial Golf Tournament announcement

09/22/2026

The John Beam Legacy Foundation, in partnership with the Kearny High Alumni Association, Kearny Komet Foundation, and the KHS Class of 1977, warmly invites you to the John Beam Memorial Golf Tournament Kickoff Luncheon on Friday, September 25th, at noon at Filippi's Pizza Grotto on Kearny Villa Road. Attendees will have access to information on the tournament, registration, sponsorships, and other ways to get involved.

John was a cherished teammate, friend, and classmate from our Serra Mesa/Mission Village days. He went on to become an accomplished football coach and was featured in the Netflix series Last Chance U.

Tragically, last November, John lost his life to an act of senseless violence. The Legacy Foundation was established to honor his memory and continue his commitment to supporting young athletes. If you are unable to attend the luncheon, additional information is available at coachbeamslegacy.org.

11 YEARS OF SUPPORTING KEARNY! ☄️

Eleven years ago today, the Kearny Community Foundation was officially established with a simple mission: to support Kearny and help our students succeed.

Many in our community also know us as the Kearny Komet Foundation, the name we proudly use to reflect our connection to Kearny High School and generations of Komets.

Over the past 11 years, with the incredible support of Kearny alumni, families, friends, and our community, we have raised more than $750,000 to support current Kearny students, athletic teams, teachers, and programs in accomplishing their goals.

We are extremely proud of what we have accomplished together, but there is still much more we can do.

As we celebrate our 11th anniversary, we ask our fellow Komets and friends of Kearny to consider making a donation. Every contribution—large or small—helps us continue providing opportunities and resources for today's students and future generations of Komets.

To learn more or make a donation, please visit:

Thank you to everyone who has supported the Kearny Community Foundation over these past 11 years. More than $750,000 raised is something our entire Kearny community can be proud of.

Once a Komet, Always a Komet! ☄️
