Did you know that SDSU has a student-led radio station that broadcasts live online for SDSU and the San Diego community? 🎧

This , we are at KCR College Radio, located on SDSU's main campus in the Communication building.

Students can express themselves freely, and audiences get to experience the independence and creativity of a college radio station. All shows are hosted by current SDSU students, as well as some alumni. They cover music, news, and sports. If a student is not broadcasting live, listen in to discover new music on their eclectic mix, filled with curated songs from up-and-coming bands.

You can listen to KCR live on local digital cable channels, online, and on the TuneIn radio app.

For this week's we are highlighting Zamira Abman, professor and the director of the comparative international studies program.

Abman's upbringing in Tajikistan deeply influenced her academic pursuits and research focus. She often draws on her experiences of growing up in a third-world country and speaking multiple dialects. These experiences directly inform her academic interests and research, shaping the courses she teaches at SDSU.

Abman is a recipient of the American Council of Learned Societies
(ACLS) Fellowship Program award, which she will use to support her project titled, “The Inevitable Conflict: the Soviet Delimitation of Central Asia, a Case Study of Northern Tajikistan.” The fellowship allows Abman to conduct research in Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Russia next year. Her goal is to highlight the recent history of these countries through historical archival sources and in-person interviews.

Abman plans to conduct surveys and interviews for students at SDSU who are interested in participating. She will also be creating opportunities for students to assist her in transcribing, organizing, and analyzing her sources.

It's ! This week, we're at the International Student Center (ISC).

The ISC assists international students in transitioning smoothly by providing support with academic advising, visas, passports, and necessary paperwork. They offer guidance on practical matters such as finding affordable housing, setting up bank accounts, arranging cell phone plans, navigating transportation, and seeking employment. Regular events are held on Fridays for students to share their cultures and cuisines. One of the critical messages to international students is to get involved in the SDSU community as much as possible.

Check out sdsu.edu/international-student-center for more information and upcoming events!

This , we’re in Honduras with Students 4 Public Health (S4PH). S4PH is an undergraduate student organization that seeks to improve public health, promote individual well-being, and eliminate health disparities across San Diego and around the world. Last month, the group took a trip to El Bailadero, Honduras focused on addressing critical public health challenges.

Throughout their stay, they engaged in a variety of activities, including:
◾ Implementing sanitation solutions to improve access to clean water and proper sanitation facilities.
◾ Outlining health education workshops to raise awareness about hygiene practices, disease prevention, and the importance of seeking medical care.
◾ Constructing an intrinsic self-sustaining community garden to keep money and jobs within the community.

“Through our collective efforts, we were able to make tangible improvements in the lives of the people in El Bailadero, providing them with access to essential resources and knowledge to lead healthier lives. While our time in Honduras may have come to an end, the impact of our work will continue to reverberate within the community for years to come, reminding us of the profound difference we can make when we come together with purpose and passion.”
