Happiest of holidays to all of you! With the end of the semester comes a much needed rest for everyone. Hugs to all of my students and teacher family. I love you all! 🫶🥰
Ms. Morrison 8th Grade Art students nominated their peers to submit to Art contest. Students learned about a variety of CA coastal habitats, species, and threats before creating pieces of art designed to communicate messages using trash as a medium in two-dimensional art.
The eighth-grade denizens of the Ms. Morrison’s Arts class found themselves delightfully entangled in a study of lines and textures—those lurking, quivering marks so beloved by the late Mr. Edward Gorey. Before long, they descended into the murky distinction between poisonous and toxic plants, poring over accounts of local San Diego flora whose dispositions ranged from mildly treacherous to thoroughly malevolent. Armed with this unsettling botanical knowledge, the students set about designing their own envelopes in the spirit of The Evil Garden, conjuring scenes that might have made Gorey himself raise a curious, gloved brow.
Some of these monstrosities are traveling by post for the annual envelope contest hosted by .gorey.house

The Sanderson Sisters made their appearance for Halloween spirit week! Fun fact: Ms. Morrison’s first concert was Bette Milder back in the 90s… yes, the 1900s 🤪

Today was a whirlwind of activity at the Art Schools Network in Sarasota. I had the opportunity to speak to teachers and ask from across the country about data storytelling. In this hands-on session, participants looked at data through the lens of narrative and visualization, and hole learning the impact of how stories help us learn and retain information while exciting our brains. It was fulfilling to hear how each person planned to take what they learned back to their sites.🤓🥰

We are two weeks into classes. These are a few of my 8th Grade Art students’ pieces. We focused on shading with depth of values and proportion using the grid method. I appreciate that at least one of my students used my face as a reference photo. 🫶
