Samuel Gompers Secondary School

At 59 years of age, this Gomperite from the Class of 1983 is back to school, working on the Certificate of Achievement in Medical Records Clerk to supplement my retirement income and perhaps, in a little way, help free up doctors to see more patients rather than frontloading that limited time with admin stuff. I earned the A.S. in ELectronic Systems (Dean's Honor List) from San Diego City College in 1995, and now, thirty years later, have a phone-book sized textbook in medical terminology for a class starting in a couple weeks, and have turned in the first online homework assignment in Office Systems. All of my classes, including Fall 2024, are online so no need to scramble for parking or for a seat up front in a classroom :-)

We're coming up on the Summer of 2023, which would still encompass the 40 Year Reunion for the first three Graduating Classes -- I'm still looking forward to getting together with everyone, and especially now that mask requirements are just a bad memory. Last year I tried to get everyone together for a "mini-reunion", but no one showed. I would very much like to get together before health issues prevent people from coming.

I retired from my job at AT&T of over 22 years in February of 2020 just before the pandemic lockdowns, and have since moved to Stockton, California. Now with the promise of cosplay events starting to run again, I've been working on a Thor (comic book version) for parades and gatherings. This weekend is also a typical weekend for San Diego Comic-Con, so last year I did a "green screen edit" with my Agent Venom (animated Spider-Man series) as if getting in line early for the legendary panels and premieres in Hall H of the San Diego Convention Center.

I look forward to the "combined first three years" reunion coming up next year (well after the mask mandates have become just another bad memory, preferably) and seeing everyone again for the first time in at least half a decade :-O

Holy cow, a friend just sent me an ariel view of Gompers. The school's gone! In its place is a gigantic sports field that says "GOMPERS." Presumably they're going to build another school around the sports field, but at the moment, it appears to be nothing but suspiciously green grass.
