Rafiki: Look down there.
[Slowly Simba walks to the edge of the watering hole and peers inside. His reflection stares back at him]
Adult Simba: That's not my father. That's just my reflection.
Rafiki: No. Look harder.
[Rafiki touches the water which causes waves that change Simba's reflection into Mufasa]
Rafiki: You see? He lives in you.

Do you remember liking Bowen theory in graduate school? Did systems thinking move to the back burner in the world of attachment theory, disorder diagnosis and treatment? It may be time to take a second look at what a natural systems approach has to offer.

Today is International Family day. Did you know that EVERY family has evolved to use the same mechanisms to manage the challenges of being together and dealing with life?

The genius of Murray Bowen is that he recognized this and formulated his theory based on what every family shares.

If you want to learn more about how the human family is a product of nature, and all of us are more alike than different, consider attending my new course.

Everything old is new again. (Song by Peter Allen)

Did you know that in addition to being the most comprehensive existing psychotherapeutic theory of the human, as early as the mid-1950s Murray Bowen was seeing and predicting our current societal regression and environmental crisis?

(With his (the human's) logical thinking and knowledge, he could have known decades ago that he was on a collision course with his environment."
