🇨🇷 Costa Rica: Animal Rescue & Veterinary Project - July 24 Session

BLOG POST FOR AUGUST 2

Hello families,

Today was a very bubbly and fun day. We went on the catamaran which is a boat that takes us to a beach where we snorkeled. The students saw many schools of fish and one notable fish such as a puffer fish. After snorkeling we all hung around the boat, paddles boarded, tanned, a few of us swam to the beach to take pictures. We were served a delicious lunch that included pasta, salads, fruits, burrito wraps and cookies. The ride back to the bus was very relaxing, everyone just got to sit at the front of the boat. Students napped and talked on our way back to the bus. One memorable part of the boat ride was seeing turtles and dolphins in the ocean. We also went to a souvenir shop where students spend one hour shopping for themselves and family members.

After that we drove back to home base where students were able to shower and get ready for dinner. After we ate we walked back to the hotel where we had chow circle where we talked about our highlights of the day, shout outs and picked our new leaders. We had such an eventful day we can’t wait to continue the fun tomorrow!

Galapagos: Preserving Natures Wonders 🦭July 23 Session

BLOG POST FOR AUGUST 1

Hello Everyone, this is our recap from Group A.

We woke up at 7:00 am and then went to breakfast. After breakfast our group got ready and walked to the port where a boat took us to Isla Lobos. At Los Lobos we walked around the island and saw many endemic animals such as Blue Footed Bo***es and Bull Sea Lions. After walking around the Island we went snorkeling and saw sea urchins, fish, a stingray, and a sea turtle.

Once done with Isla Lobos and snorkeling our group went back to base and walked around town. Then we watched the sunset and had dinner.

Hey everybody! Writing to you from group B.

We started off our day with breakfast and an interesting leadership activity called My Passion Roadmap where we created goals to reach after the program!

After everyone was done we started our walk into town and did some souvenir shopping along with grabbing some ice cream.

At noon we came back for lunch and quickly made our way to the boat where we went snorkeling and hung at the beach for a few hours. We saw turtles, sea lions, and tons of fish!

We then came back to home base for a moment before walking to the pier to watch the sunset. We then ended the day with dinner and a group activity!!

See you tomorrow!!

🇹🇭 Thailand: Elephants, Education & Cultural Discovery - July 27 Session

BLOG POST FOR AUGUST 1

Hello again!

Today was our third and most action packed day at the Elephant Sanctuary—we learned, worked, and celebrated in the beautiful district of Mae Wang!

First, in the morning, we set off to a new camp where we met three elephants. We fed them bananas and walked them by the river where they cooled down in the water as students captured the special moment on camera. Next, we made paper out of the fibre from elephant p**p and decorated it with flowers! After, we enjoyed lunch, a delicious pad see ew with coconut pancakes that the students helped make.

In the afternoon, we learned how to make the elephants’ medicine balls in order to keep their digestive system healthy, mixing rice, probiotic, banana, and other ingredients which we fed to the elephants. Later, we undertook the most demanding tasks of the day: cutting Napier grass and shoveling elephant p**p. After a hard but rewarding day of work, we savored the evening at Phupha cafe, and came back to the base for sunset circle reflections, dinner, and Jack’s 16th birthday celebration (complete with cupcakes and gifts)!

We ended the day with stories, jokes, and games around the campfire, which really was the cherry on top of a great start to August. Tomorrow is our final day at the Elephant Jungle Sanctuary, and while we’re sad to go, we have plenty to be thankful and excited for.
