CUBA AFTER CASTRO:
The Island in the Crosshairs

Directed by Abby Martin & Matthew Belen

Join for a screening of the film Cuba After Castro, which tells the story of Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel and the island’s revolutionary history through the first interview he has given to an American journalist.

Director Abby Martin will join for a live virtual Q&A after the screening.

ABOUT ABBY MARTIN:
Abby Martin is an American journalist and the founder of The Empire Files, an investigative documentary series on U.S. imperialism. Her previous films are Gaza Fights for Freedom (2019) and Earth’s Greatest Enemy (2025), the latter co-directed with Mike Prysner. Cuba After Castro
(2026), co-directed with Matthew Belen, is her latest film.

The Fall 2026 Teach-In on Palestine is organized by the Gaza@USD Coalition and SoCal Educators for Palestine.

About the film:
When a young arms dealer discovers his work is harming families in less affluent societies, he has an ethical crisis and begins a decades-long journey to redeem himself and make the world a better place. SAVING WALDEN’S WORLD is a revealing new film following Jim Merkel as he raises Walden, a budding scientist, in an off-the-grid homestead and wonders: could the very people his past-life’s work targeted, hold the keys to a sustainable planet?

A journey ensues, meeting powerful women who reshape society to work for all. Far from affluent utopias, Kerala, Cuba and Slovenia offer women free college, access to contraception, maternity leave, childcare, dentistry and healthcare. Services unimaginable in much of Jim’s blue-collar America.

As earth temperatures soar, the stakes couldn’t get higher.

Bring your stories of loved ones in custody, bring your signs, your voices and your attention.

Rehabilitation must start with love and involve families. Too many are locked up, forced to take meds, and thrown into solitary confinement when they ask for help.
