We had the best time setting up and doing some astronomy with our friends from the Imperial County Office of Education last week. The sunsets in the Valley never disappoint, and the conditions were phenomenal for viewing ✨

Students in Ms Dominguez’ TK class from Jefferson Elementary (Calexico Unified) exploring in the Mt Laguna area this week. They were able to hike, draw, color, explore and they saw a garter snake in the meadow

these are the opportunities the California State Parks provides to youth and students in our state. The land has so many lessons to teach us that go far beyond scientific facts and taxonomic classifications. It has lessons for improving our economic system, our social structures, and our communities as a whole. We believe in the next generation to make those changes, but they need time in these spaces to learn. Please bring back this important piece of funding to the CA State Parks 🙏🏽

We had an amazing time with Ms Padilla’s class this past Saturday. Our group was blessed by an Octopus sighting among other magical moments. It’s special to see the Calexico community show out with as many adults as children making the trip out to San Diego ✨🐙✨

Great memories from about a year ago when we started working with . It was a group of about 15 of us who hiked out in the Slot area of Anza Borrego. It was spicy but everyone handled it so well. And today we’re hosting. Group of 80 at the beach in San Diego. Amazing growth and a testament to the power of connecting with the land

Lots of this recently. We just wrapped up our fourth astronomy event in the past month. It never gets old hearing the exclamations when people look through the telescope or see a photo of space

This past year we’ve embarked on some of the most important work we’ve done with our friends from the . Through a grant from the CA State Parks, we’ve been able to hike, camp, do astronomy, fish and now surf with folks from the beautiful community of Calexico, CA

Our final event of the first year was a surf trip to La Jolla shores. The waves weren’t totally cooperating. However, Aaron and Ayidan hung in the water after the surf instructors and all other surfers had left. They waited patiently and one final wave set up well for them. They both went for it, and both successfully caught it capping our first year together in stoked style 🤙🏽

We’re so excited to see where the adventure takes us in year two with plans to get out to Joshua Tree NP, Yosemite NP and perhaps a paragliding trip next spring among other activities. We are also super excited to begin working with classrooms to add an outdoor element to CUSD curriculum. This all is a dream come true for us, and we remain so thankful for our friends in Calexico and at the state parks who are making it possible

Thinking of the students and staff atAlta Vista Academy who are getting a well deserved fall break this week. It was a joy supporting the beautiful work they did in putting together and launching a HAB system from their school in Chula Vista. We’re already discussing a second launch soon

Many thanks to all the old heads from the HTH Astronomy Club who taught us how to do this work. And a huge shout out to Davis High’s Marcell Gentles for the dope beats produced in his internship. It definitely enhances the viewing experience
