Back to our roots! Those who have been coming to our workshops for a while may remember our first Community Improv Workshops, each of which were co-created with participants to meet the moment. We played games to get us out of our shells, connect with one another, and find our way to the silly-sweet-authentic-free!

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, scared, or isolated - let this workshop be a balm. If you’ve been looking to ground yourself in the present, break out of the doomscroll, or find community, we hope to see you there!

Your presence is a present! This holiday season we are learning to decolonize our ideas around gift-giving, and what better way to learn than to play!

🗓️ Wednesday, December 17
⏰ 6PM - 8PM
📍BAB & Friends Gift Shop, 3131 Adams Ave
🚗Street parking available, no meter
🚃6 min walk from the #2 Bus stop at Adams & 30th

Explore a decolonial way of thinking about gifts rooted in connection, care, and reciprocity inspired by “The Serviceberry” by Robin Wall Kimmerer.

“Commodities are bought and sold,
Kept and exploited,
While gifts are cared for and shared—
As they are knit of relationships,
Woven by reciprocity.

When berries become someone
Rather than something,
When rivers become relatives,
Instead of resources,
We remember our relationship.“

- Tijn Tjoelker, 2025

School’s out(side) for the summer! 🌞 Come get silly with us, and learn to find the game wherever you go. We’ll practice skills like curiosity, trust- and connection-building, courage, and more!

We cannot predict or control the future, but we can learn to tune in; to recognize patterns, to observe the seasons of human behavior from our unique perspective, to expect surprise and unpredictability, and to build our collective capacity to respond in creative and resilient ways.

Capitalism, white supremacy, and settler colonialism depend on our collective disembodiment in the form of exhaustion and disconnection from ourselves, our communities, and the Earth. Gross!

Deeply inspired by the Black Liberation Movement, specifically the teachings of Octavia Butler, adrianne marie brown, and Tricia Hersey, we will be guided through brainstorming exercises, games, and gentle somatic movement to play and dream to envision a new future, together.

This workshop is for anyone looking to practice awareness of their body’s feelings and experiences, cultivate connections, and tap into their creativity to brainstorm how we move forward- in solidarity.
