There are an estimated 333 Million people in the United States.
Farmers that are responsible for growing our food & fiber, make up only 0.60% of that population.
•
Farmers are highly outnumbered already. With a fast-growing population and a decrease in farmers, it seems a little concerning for our future.
•
The average age of your American farmer is 57.5 years old.

Hi all,
Just a reminder that this Saturday (May 14th) is the second Saturday of the month -- our regularly scheduled garden work time starting at 9 am.
We're still in pretty good shape but there are a few weedy sections to clean up and the orchard could use a deep watering. Please come help for an hour or so if you're able and free.
Thanks,
Karl

Just in case you haven’t planted your tomatoes yet, here are some tips!
You should plant tomatoes on their side this year. Here's why: https://www.tomatobible.com/plant-tomatoes-deep/

!!
Here’s a great idea: a hand-held seed planter! Say goodbye to stooping, bending, and crawling.

You can poke a hole, drop a seed, and plant while standing upright!

Let us know if you try this!
"As promised... this is a way to garden without digging up your yard... or if you have no yard. What I love about this idea is that it is great for tomatoes that normally need plenty of space for roots to grow! Don’t forget your drainage holes!" via Letty Cherry Kreger

Wow!
Have you ever sprouted the seeds inside of a pumpkin? Cut it open, add soil, give it water and sunshine and watch what happens! Such a neat idea! https://www.pre-kpages.com/planting-pumpkin-seeds-pumpkin/

What a sweet tip!
FYI - Remember the bees!🐝🐝🐝
We are headed into summer after an extremely dry fall/winter. We are at 5.75" of rain for this season. Normal for this area by now is 19.39". We are in extreme drought conditions. This is disastrous for all wildlife and for bees.
Bees will take their nutrients from anything which has sugar and moisture. Feeding them watermelon when conditions are tough is a good idea because it’s got plenty of fructose and moisture!
This photo and information is from a park employee and taken in a remote location. You can do it on a much smaller away from people/pets.
