If medical school wasn’t the plan, SRA Ray would trade scrubs for a shovel and become a paleontologist! Turns out learning to read from a dinosaur encyclopedia leaves a mark — Ray is still fascinated by the wild diversity of creatures that once roamed the earth. 🦣

Meet Dr. Romain (Ro) Decrop, our newest postdoctoral research scholar in the Pelham Lab! Ro was born in Brussels, Belgium and grew up in Eastern Pennsylvania. He recently received his PhD in Clinical Psychology from Bowling Green State University! 🎉🎓

Ro’s research has focused on identifying youth at risk of exhibiting externalizing behaviors (e.g., lying, aggression) and tracking which factors (e.g., trauma, peer delinquency, moral disengagement) impact their development in leading to serious problems (e.g., criminal offending, clinical disorders). 📈

Outside the lab, you can find Ro enjoying a variety of outdoor activities. He enjoys spending time at the beach, hiking, and playing sports! 🏖️🏊⛰️

Fun fact: Ro has a cat named Tiramisu! 😸

Meet Katie, our newest staff research associate in the Pelham lab! Katie grew up in Colorado, and she graduated from the University of Denver. She is interested in researching and implementing evidence-based parenting interventions, aiming to break intergenerational cycles of childhood trauma. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Outside of the lab, Katie enjoys skiing, swimming, playing beach volleyball, and trying out new recipes in the kitchen.🏊‍♀️🏐🍝

Fun fact: Katie has been playing violin for 15 years and even played with her orchestra all around Greece and Turkey when she was 18! 🎻

We are very excited to have Katie in the lab, and we can't wait to see all of the wonderful things she accomplishes. 🎉

Meet Amela, one of our new staff research associates in the Pelham lab! Amela grew up in Michigan, and she graduated from the University of Michigan. She is interested in researching the development of adolescent externalizing psychopathology. 🙅‍♀️ 📈

Outside of the lab, Amela enjoys going to the beach, reading, and trying new restaurants/cafes and ranking them on Beli. 🏝 🍝

💡Fun Fact: Amela is multilingual (English, Bosnian, and Spanish!). She's also currently learning Italian on Duolingo and loves learning new languages! 🌍

We are so excited to see the work that Amela accomplishes in the Pelham Lab! 😁

In honor of national dog appreciation day, we are featuring some of the Pelham Lab's very own paw-some pals! 🐕

Bella belongs to Amela, and lives with her family in Michigan! She is a Bichon Poodle mix, and she is 13 years old. Bella works as a full-time couch napper and is considered one of the experts in the field! 😆💤

Poppy is the pet of Charlotte! Poppy is about 4 years old, and she lives with Charlotte's family in PA. She's a Shih-Tzu with a fiery personality! 🐶🔥

Penny belongs to Anabelle! She is a Cavapoo, and she's 7 years old! Fun fact: Penny is short for Penelope. Her middle name is Quinn because she is the 5th girl in the Hazzard family! 🤩

Lastly, we have Tia's dogs, Betty and Sam, who live with Tia's mom in Perth, Australia! They are both 2-year-old cavapoos who love walks along the beach and the Swan River. Fun fact: Tia surreptitiously guided her mom to choose the names Betty and Sam because they reference Taylor Swift songs! 🎶

Celebrating one of our wonderful undergraduate students, Christina! 🎉

Christina has been a part of the McNair Scholars Program, a research scholarship that prepares students for graduate school, since the beginning of 2026. This month, she had the opportunity to present her summer research project at the Undergraduate Research Symposium at UCSD. Her work focused on whether adolescent depression affects parental awareness of adolescent cannabis use, using data from the ABCD study!

It was amazing to see the culmination of everything Christina has learned and accomplished this summer! Congratulations, Christina! 🌟🎉👏

Earlier this month, we celebrated a bittersweet farewell for our incredible SRA, Meghan! She is headed off to the University of Oregon to pursue her PhD in clinical psychology! 💚

During her time at Oregon, Meghan will be under the co-mentorship of Dr. Maureen Zalewski and Dr. Sunhye Bai in the Parent Mental Health lab and the SAFE lab.

Meghan's favorite memories of the Pelham Lab are the Alohas! She thought it was wonderful getting to see everyone, from undergrads to post-docs, get to know one another and bond over their experiences in the lab! ☺️🌴

Meghan has been a key member of our lab for the past two years, and we are grateful for all of her hard work and dedication. We can't wait to cheer her on as she starts this next chapter of her journey! 🌟👏
