To celebrate National Cat Appreciation Day, here are the Pelham Labβs feline friends!
Fun fact: none of these cats were originally San Diegans. Akasha, Stanley, and Nash live with our wonderful post-doc Emily, and are originally from Louisiana where Emily completed her Ph.D. πΎ
Mike βWazβ Wazowski-Blake lives with our newest lab member Sophia β over the summer, they road-tripped together from Nashville to their new home in SoCal! Since arriving in San Diego, Waz has become a social media icon, going viral on a reddit thread for one-eyed cats. π±
And finally, Cocoa belongs to one of our superstar undergraduate research assistants, Kayla, and lives at her family home in Colorado! πββ¬

π What Would You Do If Academia Wasnβt an Option? π
We asked Alum Bella and she couldnβt pick just one path:
π©βπ« Preschool teacher β guiding tiny learners through songs, stories, and paint-splattered projects.
πβοΈ Travel influencer β passport always ready, turning wanderlust into a living.
π₯π° Gluten-free bakery owner β baking delicious treats everyone can enjoy.
If academia disappeared tomorrow, what would YOU do instead? Tell us below! β¬οΈπ
