To celebrate National Cat Appreciation Day, here are the Pelham Lab’s feline friends!
Fun fact: none of these cats were originally San Diegans. Akasha, Stanley, and Nash live with our wonderful post-doc Emily, and are originally from Louisiana where Emily completed her Ph.D. 🐾

Mike “Waz” Wazowski-Blake lives with our newest lab member Sophia – over the summer, they road-tripped together from Nashville to their new home in SoCal! Since arriving in San Diego, Waz has become a social media icon, going viral on a reddit thread for one-eyed cats. 🐱

And finally, Cocoa belongs to one of our superstar undergraduate research assistants, Kayla, and lives at her family home in Colorado! 🐈‍⬛

🎉 Last month the lab smelled like a bakery—and for good reason. Just after surprising Meghan with a birthday cake, a second cake arrived from her family! What else could we do other than devour both cakes?! 😄🍰🍰
