It's a pleasure to report that the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (CIS) membership has voted David Fogel onto the Administrative Committee (AdCom) for the IEEE CIS 2019-2021 term and also voted Gary Fogel onto the Executive Committee (ExCom) as Vice President, Conferences for 2019. Both Fogels look forward to helping to shape the future of IEEE CIS through continued service.

NSI is pleased to announce that Dr. George Burgin will be receiving a lifetime achievement award from the AIAA San Diego Section for his pioneering efforts over multiple decades using evolutionary computation for aerospace applications. Working with Dr. Lawrence Fogel and under funding from NASA Langley, Burgin succeeded in programming the "Adaptive Maneuvering Logic" that was used for air-to-air combat flight training in the 1970s-1980s. Burgin also demonstrated the value of evolutionary computation in the control logic of supersonic aircraft. Already recognized by the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society for his pioneering efforts in evolutionary algorithms and games, it is great to see Burgin also receive recognition for his many efforts to bring machine learning to aerospace. Congratulations Dr. Burgin!
The AIAA Awards banquet will be held May 10 from 5:30-9pm in San Diego. More information is available via the AIAA-SD section here:

This is an important week for one of our projects. A little over a year ago, Dr. Bob Penner met with us at Natural Selection, Inc. and asked if we could help with an app that would assist him in figuring out which of his clothes go together. You see, he's color blind. He can tell you some very funny stories that have resulted from his "color deficiency." So with machine learning to determine how to label colors, expert rules on how colors go together based on different types of clothing, and an expert app programmer, today the Color Butler 2018 app has launched in the iPhone app store. It's free so go download the app and check it out. Color blindness affects about 1 in 12 males (you might think higher!) and so it's likely there's someone you know who'd benefit from this app. We hope to eventually expand the app for women soon.

Here is our latest research published in the Journal of Neurovirology using evolved neural networks to help identify brain-specific protein factors in HIV patients with neurological disease. This is as part of a collaboration with researchers at BioInfoExperts and UC San Francisco under funding by the National Institutes of Health.
