Clairemont High is a comprehensive 9-12 high school. For more than 50 years, Clairemont High has been at the heart of the Clairemont community. Go Chieftains!
Clairemont High is a comprehensive 9-12 high school accredited by the Western Association of Schools and College. Our neighborhood has grown and diversified into a great mix of many ethnic and cultural heritages. One thing that hasn’t changed over the years is Clairemont’s focus on providing the best possible education for our students to prepare them to be future leaders. CHS provides a safe, col
laborative where students will be able to think critically, reason and solve problems as contributing members of our global society. Our Chieftains and Lady Chieftains consistently rank high in academics and athletics and have a wide variety of opportunities for students to choose from, including: performing arts, fine arts, music, 15 interscholastic athletic programs, vocational education, student government, AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination), elective support classes, technology courses and clubs. Students seeking greater academic challenges can look forward to dual-credit courses taught by instructors from Mesa College, in addition to honors and advanced placement classes that offer high school students college credit. Campus diversity goes beyond ethnicity and culture; we educate one of the largest special education populations in the district. Referred to as “Specialized Academic Instruction,” Clairemont provides educational support inside general education classrooms and in separate classrooms depending on the nature and severity of the student’s disability, as well as the educational and medical needs of the student. Students come to us from all over the county because of the strength and inclusiveness of our programs. In addition to our academic and extracurricular opportunities, Clairemont includes a number of unique campus features: the county’s only functioning high school astronomy observatory, the largest presidential memorabilia museum west of the Mississippi; the award-winning Academy of Business & Technology, a language program including German (one of the few high schools to offer this language); new athletic facilities; and even a lily pond garden observatory, providing both aesthetic enjoyment to our campus community and a hands-on science lab for students. The majority of our educators have advanced degrees; approximately 50% have completed the equivalent of a Master’s degree or beyond and one hundred percent are No Child Left Behind (NCLB) compliant in core subjects. Our 132 staff members include 67 classroom teachers, 2.7 counselors, one nurse, one psychologist, a dean of students and three administrators. Our student parents and guardians are active members of our Governance Council, School Site Council, PTSA Parent-Teacher Student Association, Clairemont High School Foundation, the Circle of Friends and athletic booster clubs. Come see Clairemont High in action.
