Did you know? Point Loma was discovered by Europeans on September 28, 1542 (476 years ago!) when Portuguese navigator Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo departed from Mexico and led an expedition to explore the west coast of what is now the United States. Happy unofficial Point Loma Day!

“I have always said history is in my blood. It has always been something that I have loved and has made sense to me. From a very young age I would talk about history with my brother, or uncles, or my grandpa. The older I got, the more addicted I became. History is a study of human nature; we can better understand ourselves and the world around us if we understand our past. This is why I am interested in history: to better understand and help humankind.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some wise thoughts from Sarah, our current Treasurer. We love her passion! What are you passionate about?

“I'm interested in history because it's something that we all have in common but at the same time I like learning about different people through the different interpretations of the past. Plus if I ever end up time traveling I'll be able to recall the historical context of that period and finesse the system.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some insightful and humorous musings from Gloria, who serves as our Chaplain, about her interest in history. Comment where and when you would time travel to!⌛️

“I love that history is an adventure where you’re constantly learning new things about our home here in the US and what makes us Americans, and about places far away. It’s really neat that you’re able to almost re-experience the past, in light of what we know today.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Sabrina serves as our Secretary this year and we are so thankful to have her on our team! Stay tuned for more posts of what interests each of our leaders about history. 🤓

“History has always interested me because it allows us to connect to the people who came before us and understand why the world we live in is the way it is today. It’s fascinating to me to get to look into the lives of people in the past and really see them as just as real as you and I.”
