Our annual back-to-school event was our BIGGEST one yet!!!!🗣️🚌📌

We probably say this every year BUT THIS TIME over 250 kids, 50+ family members, and 100 incredible volunteers came together, bringing over 400 people together!❤️

Our students and their families walked away with well-fitting shoes👟, essential hygiene bags👝, fresh produce🍉, and delicious home-cooked food (courtesy of our new board member, Stefan!)😉

Our kids had been counting down the days to Saturday for months, and you made sure they weren’t disappointed🙂‍↕️💪🏼 Thank you to every volunteer who carried heavy loads, navigated the crowd, donated, and showered our families with love💚You continue to make a huge impact!💪🏼🫂

8 days left to order school supplies! AND 12 days until our biggest event of the year!!!📚✏️🥳

We’re getting closer to the start of an exciting new school year, and thanks to your incredible generosity, MANY of the items on our school supply list have already been purchased🙏🏼💪🏼 Thank you for helping us set our students up for success!💛

Today, on World Refugee Day, we honor the families who had the courage to leave behind everything they once knew that being their homes, memories, traditions, and loved ones, but all for the hope of a safer future and greater opportunities💚🤲🏻

We honor the parents who carried fear and uncertainty, yet still chose courage. The families who rebuilt their lives from the ground up while continuing to lead with strength, love, and resilience. Their stories are not defined by what they lost, but by the incredible perseverance and determination they show every single day💪🏼

At San Diego Refugee Tutoring, we are endlessly proud to work alongside these families. Our work comes down to the families who trust us, the students who show up to every session and give it their all, and the volunteers who bring heart, patience, and smiles to every shift❤️🙏🏼 Together, they create the community that makes this work so meaningful🌎

Watching these students learn, grow, and continue to shine despite the obstacles they have faced is something that inspires us daily!! Today is a reminder that refugee families are not only survivors, they are leaders, dreamers, builders, and an essential part of our community!!🙂‍↕️ Their strength deserves to be recognized, celebrated, and uplifted.

To every refugee parent, student, and volunteer: thank you for your courage, your trust, and your heart. We are proud to stand beside you today and every day. 🤍

We are excited to invite our community to the first-ever World Refugee Day Celebration hosted by Karen Organization of SD at the Global Marketplace!! This special event is an opportunity to come together, honor the resilience and contributions of refugees, and celebrate the rich diversity that strengthens our community💚

Enjoy a day filled with cultural performances💃🏻, cooking classes🧑‍🍳, a gardening workshop🪴, kids’ art activities🎨, story time featuring refugee-themed picture books📚, and a vibrant market showcasing refugee- and immigrant-owned small businesses!! There will also be raffle prizes generously donated by local businesses🤫

We are grateful to be part of this celebration alongside incredible community partners and hope you’ll join us for a day of connection, learning, and celebration. Bring your family, invite your friends, and help us celebrate the stories, cultures, and achievements of refugee communities.

Another school year: officially wrapped!✅
We closed out the year stronger than ever, and our hearts are overflowing with gratitude for the incredible community around us💛🌎

We celebrated our final days together with soccer, pizza 🍕, banana split sundaes 🍨, and custom photo albums🎞️. The energy was unmatched, with one student calling it “the best event ever!”🕺🏻🕺🏻 And every single child headed into summer break with backpacks stuffed full of reading books, art supplies, and plenty of joy😊

But none of this would be possible without the ultimate team effort of our 426 amazing volunteers who showed up for 48 tutoring sessions and special events!!! The hundreds of generous donors and community partners like who uplift and empower our families❤️. And our long-term mentors (some here for 15 years!) who have watched these kids grow from learning to tie their shoes to heading off to 4-year universities and community colleges.📚

Whether it’s elementary reading, middle school math, or college scholarships, SDRT is here for the long haul!!🙂‍↕️❤️ Thank you for helping us build such a rich, loving, and dedicated community this year🫂🫶🏻

The (almost) end of the spring semester means one final push🗣️😤 and a little encouragement with our go-to saying: “LET’S FINISH STRONG!!” 💪📚

This past Saturday, our students took on their assessments with focus and determination. 🧘🏻‍♀️

It was a chance to celebrate their progress and identify areas we’ll continue building on📖 We know sitting and testing for long periods isn’t easy, which makes their effort even more impressive!👏🏻We’re incredibly proud of each and every student for showing up and giving it their all💛🙂‍↕️

And a huge thank you to our amazing tutors who volunteered their time, your support truly means the world to us and our community!! ❤️
