We may be a little late celebrating Get Caught Reading Month (it was last month!), but, luckily, any time is a great time to get caught reading! 📚❤️

At our school, reading is a daily priority. Each day, students participate in small reading groups with peers at similar reading levels. These groups provide targeted instruction, build confidence, strengthen reading skills, and help every child grow as a reader.

Most importantly, these daily reading experiences help students discover the joy of books and develop a lifelong love of reading. Whether they're exploring new adventures, learning about the world, or finding characters they can relate to, our students are building skills that will benefit them for years to come.

So if you see one of our students—or any young people in your life—with a book in hand, be sure to celebrate it—they've been caught reading! 📖✨

During the month of May, our school focused on Mental Health Awareness and the importance of caring for our emotional well-being. Through Counseling & Guidance Groups led by the School Counselor, students participated in meaningful discussions and activities centered on mental health, coping skills, and support systems. 💚

Students learned:
• Healthy strategies for managing emotions and stress
• The importance of reaching out to trusted adults and safe people at school and at home
• Ways to support friends or classmates who may be feeling sad or overwhelmed
• The meaning of “stigma” and how it can prevent people from seeking help and support

As part of the lessons, students watched a peer-centered video featuring children their own age sharing what mental health means to them. Many students were able to make personal connections to the discussions, including recognizing the importance of taking prescribed medication, practicing coping skills, and asking for help when needed.

To continue supporting our students and families, the School Counselor also provided mental health resource sheets for each classroom.

We are proud of our students for their openness, participation, and willingness to learn how to care for themselves and others. Together, we can help create a supportive and stigma-free school community. 💚

🏅🎉 Our Schoolwide Olympics was a huge success! From April 27th – May 1st, students participated in a week full of exciting sports, teamwork, fitness, and fun. Each day featured different activities and competitions including relay races, basketball, and many other engaging events that brought our students together in the spirit of friendly competition.

Created by our Sports Support Liaison and Program Director, the Olympics gave students the opportunity to stay active, build social skills, encourage one another, and strengthen teamwork while making lasting memories. 💪🏻💪🏽💪🏾💪🏿🏀🏃🏼‍♂️🏃🏽‍♂️🏃🏿‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏾‍♀️

This week, we celebrated our athletes during the Olympics Awards Ceremony, recognizing their hard work, determination, sportsmanship, and participation throughout the games. We are so proud of all of our students for giving their best effort and for showing each other so much support and encouragement as they pushed themselves to do hard things! 🏆👏

💙 Tomorrow, May 18th, we’re celebrating Speech Pathologists Day! 💙

Students — don’t forget to wear BLUE tomorrow to show your support and appreciation for our amazing speech pathologist Sydnee! 🗣️✨

We also invite students to create a “KIND Word Bubble” for a friend or for Sydnee or Mary Ann, our former speech pathologist, with words of encouragement and positivity to make them feel valued and celebrated. 😊

Let’s fill our school with kindness and appreciation tomorrow! 💙

At Aseltine, we believe every student deserves the opportunity to grow beyond the barriers that have held them back—academically and socially.

Through a strong focus on conflict resolution, students learn how to navigate challenges with confidence and respect. Our creative problem-solving competitions encourage them to think outside the box, collaborate, and discover the confidence to take on even the most daunting of challenges. Most importantly, we prioritize building authentic relationships so every student feels valued, understood, and supported as they work to overcome the barriers—internal and external—that have stood in their way.

When students feel seen and empowered, there’s no limit to what they can achieve. 💡
