Our final 2026 inductee, under the category of Government Service, is Barbette Henry Lowndes (Class of 1976).
Following graduation from KHS in 1976, Barbette was honored to enroll in the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland where she graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Oceanography – and was celebrated as a member of the very first Academy class to graduate women. For 27 years in the Navy, she was stationed all over the world before retiring as a Captain in the Supply Corps. Her specialties included service as a Contracting Officer, Officer of the Deck Underway, and Commanding Officer (Defense Contract Management Area, Boston). After her retirement, she then worked eight years as a Federal Civilian Employee at SPAWAR in Military and Civilian Human relations and manning. As a community volunteer, Barbette has served faithfully in her local Reformation Lutheran Church, in the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, and in the Naval Academy Alumni Association. She has been married for 42 years to a fellow retired Navy officer and has two daughters.
