🚀✈️ Take Flight Camp soared to new heights!
During this week's WSSD Summer Camp, students explored the science and creativity of all things that fly with Mr. Johnson, Ms. McGrady and Mr. Ian. From paper airplanes and stomp rockets to balsa wood planes, campers discovered how air movement and design influence flight through hands-on projects and experiments.
The week included a flight path obstacle course, a visit from a pilot guest speaker, and the creation of miniature runways and landing strips for their aircraft. On the final day, campers invited family and staff to watch as they showcased—and launched—their favorite flying creations before each proudly earned their wings to wear on their shirts or hats.
Here's to a week filled with imagination, engineering, and taking learning to new heights! ✈️🌤️

During the first week of WSSD Summer Camp, our Herbal Camp with teacher Nazdira immersed students in the fascinating world of herbs. 🌿☀️
Each day, campers explored a different herb, learned about its traditional uses and benefits, and created simple herbal remedies—including infused honey, oxymels, herbal oils, and other nature-inspired creations—to bring home and share with their families.
Alongside herbal exploration, students enjoyed storytelling, nature play, crafting, and a gentle daily rhythm that nurtured curiosity, creativity, and a connection to the natural world.
One of the joys of WSSD Summer Camp is the opportunity to broaden students’ learning beyond the school year. During this herbal week, campers were introduced to local and California herbal traditions that may not have be explored during the regular curriculum. Where these teachings overlapped with Waldorf gardening and nature studies, they reinforced students’ understanding by highlighting shared knowledge across different traditions and perspectives. Of course, the different iced teas were the biggest hits on the hot summer afternoons. 🌼🍃
