Please help us save a world renown program and send the message that closure is not an option for any college department after the difficult year and the tireless efforts of educators and staff, around the world, to keep up. We need a time of healing, not further loss.

Here is a sample letter for anyone to send to the names listed at the beginning. The department is asking for anyone motivated to send an email to also include [email protected] so that they can keep track of responses. Emails from the US should be sent by Sunday at the latest to ensure they are received before the decision Tuesday.

Hello all,

I hope all of you have stayed as well as can be throughout the last two years. I am posting this in hopes of reaching as many like minded students, staff, academics, and professional archaeologists as possible. As many of you know, I spent the last year in Sheffield, England working on my MS in Human Osteology and Funerary Archaeology. The archaeology department there however houses many collections and laboratories that are world class including zooarch, applied sciences, and bio. Many American, and other international, students attend these programs yearly. They are threatened now by a possible shut down. The graduate programs are multi-faceted and multi-disciplined including practical anatomy labs through their medical school (one of very few programs to offer such a class). I can personally attest to the quality of their facilities and collections and know that the loss of these resources would be detrimental to the field of archaeology. As many of you helped Sonia and I retain our positions at City College a few years ago, I hope you would consider doing the same now. Feel free to message me any questions or advice on what would help. Their fate will be decided Tuesday so please send by Monday. If one of the world's highest rated archaeology programs can be shut down so quickly, what will that mean for programs such as ours?

Please help us if you can! The Department of Archaeology at Sheffield is threatened with closure. For all those who have links with Archaeology at Sheffield, either past or present, please shout out your support for keeping the department open, either on social media or preferably by emailing the Vice-Chancellor (email address in the text). The decision is to be made next week so we have very little time to make ourselves heard!

I forgot for a bit how much I love to mentor future archaeologist. That changes today. If it were not for the wonderful professors at City I would not be where or who I am today!
