As we get older, strength becomes one of the most important things we can train.

The Concept2 StrengthErg was created from the founders’ own journey — building a tool to support long-term health and strength.

What makes it different?

• Flywheel resistance that measures the work you produce

• A low-risk training environment — no dropped bars or heavy plates

• A completely new category of strength training

Because it’s so new, there aren’t established benchmarks yet.

That means you get to create them.

Train, track the work, and build strength that supports you for the long run. 💪

Hitting that 3 x 30:00 for the dialed in split/rate always feels great. Also, I love that unintentionally made a uni in Dark Horse colors.

This week has been recovering from a gnarly cold resulting in a sinus infection but at least I can be staying on top of my “Zone 2” volume to try and stay sane and I always try to throw in at least one long BikeErg per week.

I’m doing a lot of work re-organizing my stroke atm to play with better rib engagement and more serratus and lat grab at the catch rather then a sneaky elbow break. It’s been months in the work but it’s really paying off.

Often when we are talking about Rowing, we end up, focusing on leg drive, keeping the body from opening too soon, breaking arms early, but our ability to engage with the Serratus to get our shoulders connected to our rib cage for stabilizing maybe one of the more important primers that we think of going into a workout.

Many errors in the Rowing stroke come because people don’t understand how to stabilize with the whole trunk and rather revert to opening the shoulders early to use the back and post your chain exclusively.

The kettlebell arm bar is a great exercise for teaching the scalp how to keep the shoulder down and engaged while protracted rather than only being able to retract the shoulder for stability.

The Concept2 StrengthErg brings flywheel resistance into strength training.

Here are a few movements you can perform on it:

Lower Press:
Sit against the backrest, draw the machine in, and press away.

Upper Pull:
A pulling movement similar to the effort of a pull-up.

Upper Push:
Tighten the k**b, release the brake, draw the machine in, and press.

Because the resistance comes from the flywheel, the machine can measure your output — giving you real feedback on the work you’re doing.

A different way to think about strength training. 💪

Stressed out? Not sleeping? Performance is off?
Your breath is probably why 😮

Most of us are literally breathing wrong and have no idea. Your breath controls way more than you think — your stress, your focus, your sleep, your digestion… all of it.

So real talk, are YOU controlling your breath, or is your breath controlling you?

Do it for you.

Ask yourself:
Why do I want this?

The Dipsea. Oldest trail race in the country. Started in 1905.

Five years ago I sprained my ankle on this course, came home covered in dirt and mud, and fell completely in love with it.

This year was my fourth time running it. And I trained differently - mostly zone 2.

Zone 2 is simple. Take 220 minus your age. That's your max heart rate. Train between 60 and 70% of that. That's it.

Harder than it sounds. More effective than most people think.
