SDSU Theatre in the spotlight!

Courtney Corey (MFA Musical Theatre ’26) and Stephen Brotebeck, director of the School of Theatre, Television, and Film, joined the “Spotlight on the Community” podcast this week to celebrate SDSU’s 100th season of plays and musicals.

They shared what audiences can look forward to in The Wild Party—Andrew Lippa’s electrifying musical set amid the glamour, excess and intrigue of Prohibition-era New York—and the fabulous opening-night gala on Oct. 16.

They also discussed how an SDSU education prepares students to build creative careers and contribute to San Diego’s thriving arts community.

Big news for K-pop dancers, educators and dreamers! ✨

Dance professor Chuyun Oh has announced the publication of her second book, K-pop Dance Education: To Dreamers (Routledge, 2026)—the first comprehensive teaching guide to K-pop dance.

Building on her Amazon New Release bestseller, K-pop Dance, the new book brings together training models, cultural perspectives and practical strategies for teaching K-pop dance to learners of all ages—from studio and classroom instruction to study abroad courses.

Congratulations to Katherine Spilde!
Recipient: 2026 Distinguished Faculty Award

Each year, SDSU Alumni recognizes outstanding faculty and honors them for their contributions to teaching, research and community service.

PSFA professor Katherine Spilde, Ph.D. MBA, is a cultural anthropologist and Professor in the L. Robert Payne School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, where she serves as Endowed Chair of the Sycuan Institute on Tribal Gaming. She teaches the nation’s only four-year degree in tribal casino operations management.

Prior to her appointment at SDSU, Katherine held leadership positions at UC-Riverside, the Harvard Project on American Indian Economic Development, and the National Indian Gaming Association (NIGA.) She was also a Policy Analyst and Writer for the National Gambling Impact Study Commission, a Congressional commission that produced a comprehensive study of U.S. gambling policy for President Clinton in 1999. An award-winning author of over 50 academic articles, Dr. Spilde has produced national, state and tribal gaming impact studies and has worked extensively with over 100 tribal governments on nation-building activities. A long-time advocate for public health, she also serves on the Board of Directors for the International Center for Responsible Gaming.

This year, the SDSU School of Theatre, Television and Film celebrates its 100th anniversary season with a diverse mix of six plays and musicals hand-picked by the season selection committee, including Andrew Lippa’s The Wild Party, The Maids by Jean Genet, a soon-to-be-announced new Broadway comedy, the theatre for young audiences version of the musical Seussical and Shakespeare’s King Lear starring Randy Reinholz in the title role.
