The Community Music School places great importance on exposing children to positive experiences in music. In the Children’s Division we seek to make the very most of these precious years by encouraging imaginative growth in the areas of self-confidence, motivation, and aesthetic awareness through creative musical learning. The Community Music School also holds many opportunities for adult students

Adult Beginning Group Piano Class
This course is designed for adults with no keyboard experience and is a fun introduction into the world of music at the piano. In this class you will learn to read music while covering the basics of technique, ear training, as well as explore different styles of music alongside a group of students who share the same passion and curiosity for the piano. Classes will run Saturdays at 9AM, September 14 through November 16. Beginning Group Piano for Kids
(Ages 5-6)
A joyful introduction to piano for little ones! Creative learning experiences tailored especially for this age group to develop eye, ear and finger coordination. Ear training, rhythm, and basic technique are introduced through the use of songs, creative movement and improvisation. This 8 week session runs Saturdays at 10AM, September 28 through November 16. The SDSU String Academy is a pre-college program designed to give students age 6 - 18 conservatory level instruction. The program offers individual and group instruction on the violin, viola, cello and bass. The Hausmann Chamber Music Program (HCMP)
The Hausmann Chamber Music Program (HCMP) is a chamber music experience for learning, creativity and exploration. Currently open to string players and pianists ages 12 and up, participants will have the opportunity to work with the members of Hausmann Quartet and guest artists. Participants will be placed in groups of three, four and five based on their prior experience in chamber music and their age and skill level. Pre-formed groups are also welcome to apply. Participants will have the opportunity to rehearse, receive coaching, participate in master classes, and perform. Classes will be on Sundays either at 2:30pm or at 3:30pm (you will choose the one that’s convenient for you), September 29 through December 15 (no class November 10). Fees for this class are $420. In its fifth year, San Diego Bass Fest is an intense, informative, and exploratory five-day double bass workshop presented by the SDSU Community Music School, that will take place in summer 2020 (dates to be announced) at the School for Music and Dance at San Diego State University, California. The San Diego Bass Fest aims to energize and unite the bass community in San Diego and will include internationally renowned bassists and educators to provide one-on-one and group instruction to students of all levels and all ages.
