Jiai Aikido shares in the support and respects for Tom Sensei, her students, and dojo. San Diego has a very small aikido community, and Tom Sensei was a big part of it. Jiai dojo will be holding a special training in her honor this week.

It is with profound regret that we inform you that Bernice Tom Shihan passed away Saturday morning, May 16, 2026.

Sensei has been an inspiration to us all. We will miss her deeply.

Jiai Aikido sends out our best wishes and warm regards to everybody on Martin Luther King Jr day.
May we all strive to be more like him with his fearlessness pursuit of love and justice.
