Hi everyone! Voting for this video will directly help receive funding to put this idea into action to motivate sustainable water use on USD's campus. I am really stoked about this idea because I think it encapsulates the mission we had when we founded What's Your 20? over a year ago now. All support is appreciated, especially sharing with friends. Thanks so much!!

Check out our newly installed composter located behind Missions Crossroads!! Did you know that landfills use millions of gallons of water per month for dust control? By composting your food scraps (banana peels, egg shells, coffee grounds, etc.) you can divert waste from the landfill, save water, and produce fertilizer to grow more food. Now that's closing the loop!!

"I believe that bottled water is a symptom of a larger set of issues: the long-term decay of our public water systems, inequitable access to safe water around the world, our susceptibility to advertising and marketing, and a society trained from birth to buy, consume, and throw away." - Peter Gleick

It's a very big day today, locally and globally:
Here on campus during dead hours, we are celebrating the installation of a new rain tank in the USD community garden behind Missions Crossroads. Everyone is welcome to come to the event from 12:30-2 in the garden. We are very excited about this initiative!
Globally, today is World Toilet Day. This is an event created by the United Nations in order to raise awareness and start conversations about the global sanitation crisis, and the interconnected issues of clean water, sanitation, health, nutrition, and overall quality of life. Learn more and join the dialogue! http://www.worldtoiletday.info/about

Did you know that the Sycamore Landfill in Santee uses approximately 1 MILLION GALLONS of water per MONTH in dust control?
Trash composition studies indicate that 2/3 of San Diego's trash can be RECYCLED.
San Diegans throw away enough recyclables to:
energize over 181,000 households for a year;
conserve 3,355,937 barrels of oil;
fuel over 400 cars for a year (156,610,400 gallons/25 miles per gallon/15,000 miles/year).
So what can YOU do to divert waste from the landfill (and ultimately save water)?
Buy a RECYCLING BIN ($5) and a COMPOSTING BUCKET ($5) with a screw top lid ($7) for your home. When your compost bucket is full, you can empty your food waste into the compost bins behind Missions Crossroads (next to the Community Garden)!!
