This past week has been spent decorating classrooms, finalizing lesson plans, readying facilities, and tackling other such behind-the-scenes tasks in preparation for our 2022-23 school year together.
We've also been engaging in team-building activities, like the ones pictured here! While such activities are fun and memorable, they're ultimately meant to foster the depth of connection that brings us together as a strong Panther family, and creates a safe space of belonging for each and every student we have the honor and joy to educate. Because really, that's what it's all about.
Today, we're thankful to begin co-creating that space together, staff and students alike, as our first day of school takes place. Welcome back, Panthers! π

One month ago, today...
One month ago, today, we saw our dear students become graduates.
One month ago, today, we witnessed their dedication to growth carry them across the graduation stage, diplomas in hand.
One month ago, today, we reflected on the ways they've shaped our campus and our hearts for the better.
Today, we remember with joy π

Besides the smiles that ensue, our favorite part about Field Trips is watching students soak in new information via interactive means that engage their senses, their wonder, and oftentimes- their hearts.
Pictured here are some memories from our first Field Trip since the pandemic began- a small glimpse into the hearts that were expanded by the beauty, nourishment, and wisdom this Earth provides through landscapes and animals alike.

Recently, our students have been exploring how information can be shared through different media platforms. This has led to projects such as the one pictured here, where students create podcasts about their chosen Archaeoastronomy sites to understand how ancient cultures perceived the sky and applied such knowledge to their daily lives. Here at CHPrep, is our belief that the intersection of learning and creativity is a critical part of academic growth, and witnessing our students light up as they engage in both fills our classrooms and hearts with joy. Happy Saturday, Panthers!

As part of an ongoing study of the cultures and art in Africa, our High School Ethnic Studies class held a Zoom workshop with Sara Burmenko from The Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta, GA. This workshop focused on puppets created by different tribes in Mali, while inspiring our students to create their own. Here's to another week of creative, hands-on learning, and to the inspiration and growth it curates. Happy Monday, Panthers!

Welcome back Panthers!
Today marks the start of a new semester, full of new rhythms and new learnings. Whether this has you feeling expectant, scared, hopeful, excited, stressed, eager, uncertain, happy, or somewhere in-between, please know: we're here. Here to support the transition between the then and the now, the known and the unknown, and any feelings that may arise along the way. Here to cross into this new season / semester together, and to journey side by side towards all of the fun and growth, insight and transformation that await our school within it.

Welcome to Intro to Gaming and Game Theory!
Here, students study human behavior in light of competitive scenarios, strategies, problem solving, prediction, and communication. Then, they put what they learn to the test through their own competitions.
While a multitude of games are utilized in this class (courtesy of wonderful donors and local game shops alike), students also handcraft their own games too.
As Winter Break approaches (and the end of our first semester with it), classes like this remind us what a truly wonderful semester it has been and continues to be!

Incorporating gardening time into science class this school year has held incomparable forms of connection. For starters, a more deep and integrated connection to phenomenons like photosynthesis/cellular respiration as well as the intricacies of ecosystem wellness.
But perhaps most importantly, it has provided a more deep and integrated awareness of and connection to the wisdom and nourishment of Earth.
The 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, which wrapped up this past weekend, re-affirmed that: "To love a place is not enough. We must find ways to heal it." And in this class, it's been a joy to watch our students develop tools for both.

This school year has held many thought-provoking conversations, and the debates pictured here were no exception. In them, students explored questions that they've encountered on their educational journey thus far, such as: βAre uniforms effective?β βIs homework actually beneficial to student learning?β βAre Standardized Tests necessary?β Not only are such questions relevant to our students, but creating a platform for them to be explored integrates one of the facets of education that we're most passionate about: teaching students not WHAT to think, but HOW to think.

That's a wrap, Panthers!
A big thank you to those that planned such a fun Spirit Week for us all to engage in and connect through - the moments spent smiling and building memories together have been wonderful.
Wishing everyone a great weekend ahead! π
