SDSU Mechanical Engineering Department The Mechanical Engineering department is currently the largest of the four departments in the College of Engineering at SDSU.

The department educates approximately 1300 undergraduate and graduate students. The Program Educational Objectives of the Mechanical Engineering Program at SDSU are to matriculate Bachelor of Science graduates who upon the years following graduation are committed to:

1. Applying an open-minded but critical approach to the analysis of problems and the design of innovative and sustainable engineering solutions while employed in industry, government organizations, in research and development, or in entrepreneurial efforts (Professional Practice).

2. Actively participating in on-going professional development opportunities (Professional Development).

3. Conducting themselves responsibly, professionally, and ethically with a broad appreciation of the world and the role that engineering plays in society (Service and Citizenship).

On the 25th anniversary of the collapse of the World Trade Center Towers on 9/11/2001, Professor Fletcher Miller discussed the engineering analysis performed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the aftermath of the attacks.

He shared personal recollections of that day, further commemorating the events while analyzing the consequences and outcomes of the studies made. Through his overview, it becomes important to realize from an engineering perspective how we have progressed in the years after the events.
