Western society is all about cortical inhibition of foundational biological systems. We use our thinking brain to suppress our survival brain, then wonder why we’re exhausted and dysregulated.
Our thinking brain wants to be in control. Our survival brain wants to feel safe.
The pace and ethos of Western society pit these two against each other in a deeply unhealthy and depleting way. This dynamic, no matter what their words tell you, is why people make their way to your table. It’s what makes us work out to the point of injury. It’s what makes us drink more than we know is good for us and it’s what makes our sleep quality and relationship quality poor and challenged."
