“Sometimes people leave you, halfway through the wood.” -Stephen Sondheim
Stephen Sondheim, Titan of the American Musical, Is Dead at 91
He was the theater’s most revered and influential composer-lyricist of the last half of the 20th century and the driving force behind some of Broadway’s most beloved and celebrated shows.
STEEL PIER Designer Spotlight : Regan A. McKay / / Costume Design
“When I was designing STEEL PIER, I was really inspired by the contrast in the 1930s between Hollywood glamour and the hard realities of the Great Depression, and felt like that was mirrored in the script by the duality of the beautiful illusions and the harsh grittiness of the dance marathon. My design process focused on helping to build a world that contained both sides.”
MFA Musical Theatre graduate student Kyle Montgomery created a brand new class at SDSU on Q***r Representation in Musical Theatre.
"You should register for the course if you are interested in topics ranging from Disney villains, q***r baiting, RuPaul’s Drag Race, q***r coding, The Pansy Craze, representation, TikTok, and more." https://psfa.sdsu.edu/about_us/news/xX
Q***r Studies in Musical Theatre
The course offers a unique opportunity for all students to learn about how musical theater shapes and reflects ideas about gender, sexuality, and all things ‘q***r’ in the U.S.
