SDSU MFA Musical Theatre

San Diego State University’s Master of Fine Arts (MFA) Degree in Musical Theatre is one of only two such graduate programs in the nation.

The SDSU MFA Musical Theatre Program is a two-year intensive curriculum. Productions are selected specifically for the enrolled graduates. Candidates perform, direct, choreograph, compose, write and critique productions. Students enroll in courses in Musical Theatre History, Stage Direction, Script and Score Analysis, and the keystone course; Musical Theatre Studio. Studio is a performance class t

Three of our students presented on their research in addition to multiple alums who were represented in presentations and on the MTEA Executive Committee. Long time no see! A whole new MFA class started classes and rehearsals in the last few weeks, figured it’s time for a reintroduction

Out of 163 submissions, the San Diego State University New Musical Initiative has chosen IN A SUNSHINE STATE as this year's selection. Writers T.C. Lind, Derek Gregor, and Phoebe Kreutz will join with director Stephen Brotebeck, music director Robert Meffe and the SDSU MFA Musical Theatre cohort for a two-year development process and world premiere in the spring of 2024.
