🏈💜 HOMECOMING GAME NIGHT!
The Saints are back at Mesa College tonight to take on University City, and there’s only one acceptable color in the Pit:
💜 PURPLE OUT 💜
Wear purple, bring the energy, and help make the student section LOUD for Homecoming! 📣⚔️

💜📅 This Week at Saints!

We’re heading into another full week on campus — and coming off a great Frosh Retreat! 🙌 Our newest Saintsmen had a chance to spend time together, build community, and keep settling into life at Saints. Judging by this week’s photo, I think they’re getting the hang of it. 😎💜💛

A few things to keep on your radar:

Monday
📚 Regular attire + a full six-block day

Tuesday
🏈 SFL Intramurals — Villanova
• Klapmeier vs. Bachynsky
• Wallace vs. Walp
• Christian da Luz vs. Giesing

Wednesday
👔 Tie Day + Mass
🎒🚫 Anything But a Backpack Day! Bring your books and supplies in… well, basically anything except a backpack. Then stick around for the Backpack Contest at lunch. Creativity is encouraged. Questionable transportation methods are apparently also encouraged. 😂

Thursday
📣 Homecoming Rally! We’ll wrap up the school day with Priory/Assembly and start getting into HOCO mode.

Friday
⚔️ Spirit Attire
🏈 SFL Intramurals — Tolentino
• Brophy vs. Yoakum
• Pruter vs. Johnston
• Dent vs. Hickey

Intramurals, questionable “backpacks,” and Homecoming energy incoming. Have a great week, Saintsmen! 💜💛

💜🙏 A special weekend for the Class of 2030!

This weekend, our freshmen are gathering for their Freshman Retreat — a chance to step away from the usual routine, grow in faith, and continue building the brotherhood that makes Saints so special.

A heartfelt thank you to all of the parents and families who joined us for the opening prayer service and helped begin the weekend together in prayer and community. ✝️

May God bless the Class of 2030 throughout this retreat and in the years ahead. 💜💛

🎓💜 Congratulations to five outstanding Saints recognized by the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program!

Michael Gomez, Gannon Hayes, Erik Johanson, and Oliver Winn have been named Commended Scholars, while Lorenzo Simon has earned the distinction of National Merit Semifinalist.

These honors recognize students whose performance on the PSAT/NMSQT placed them among the highest-achieving students in the nation.

As a Semifinalist, Lorenzo will now have the opportunity to continue in the National Merit Scholarship competition and be considered for Finalist status and scholarship opportunities.

Principal James Horne shared:
“We are tremendously proud of Lorenzo, Michael, Gannon, Erik, and Oliver. Their achievement reflects not only their academic ability, but also the discipline, curiosity, and commitment to excellence that we hope to cultivate in every Saints student.”

We are proud to celebrate these young men, their families, and the teachers who have supported and challenged them along the way. Their accomplishments are a wonderful reflection of the hard work, curiosity, and pursuit of excellence that are central to the Saints experience.

Congratulations, Lorenzo, Michael, Gannon, Erik, and Oliver! Go Saints! 💜💛

💜🏆 Congratulations to our 2026 St. Augustine Athletic Hall of Fame inductees!

We are proud to honor three Saintsmen whose impact on Saints athletics spans competition, leadership, and decades of service.

Nick Vitalich ’61
A four-year varsity letterman in both football and track & field, Nick was the 1961 Gold Medal winner for Athletics, was named Defensive Player of the Year as a senior, and earned a spot on the Breitbard First Team Defense. After Saints, he walked on to the football team at Notre Dame.

Armando Favela ’05
A four-year varsity golfer and member of the 2005 State Championship team, Armando earned First Team All-CIF honors in 2005 before attending Loyola University Chicago on a golf scholarship. He turned professional in 2010 and spent 13 years competing on the PGA Latin America Tour, Canadian Tour, and Korn Ferry Tour, qualifying for six PGA Tour events and finishing his career with seven professional victories.

Tom Cudal ’72
Tom is being inducted for meritorious service to the Athletic Department. After joining Saints as a teacher in 1979, he spent 10 years coaching football before becoming the unmistakable “Voice of Saints Athletics.” For more than three decades, Tom has announced home football and basketball games and served as emcee for Hall of Fame ceremonies, rallies, and countless special events.

Three remarkable Saintsmen. Three different legacies. One lasting impact on Saints athletics. 💜💛

Congratulations, Nick, Armando, and Tom!

💜💛 Freshman Beanies: A Saints Tradition

A little purple and gold, a new senior brother, and a Saints tradition shared across generations.

At this year’s Beanie Rally and Senior–Frosh Pairing, our freshmen received their beanies and met the senior brothers who will help welcome them into life at Saints. Our transfer students and new faculty and staff joined in the beanie tradition, too!

Saints freshmen have been wearing beanies since at least 1948. For 44 years, Jean Shaw sewed more than 7,000 of them before passing the tradition—and her Saints sewing machine!—to her daughter-in-law, Cheryl Shaw. A labor of love, one stitch at a time.

For our seniors, it’s a full-circle moment: the freshmen who once received their own beanies are now welcoming the next class of Saintsmen. The hats may be small, but the memories have a way of sticking around.

Fun fact: the beanie in the first photo belongs to Ms. Au from her first year working at Saints!

Saints alumni: do you still have your freshman beanie? 💜💛
