Caption: More than two decades ago, Kobe Sanders of the Los Angeles Clippers was a child in the Pandas classroom at the SDSU Children’s Center.

Recently, Sanders returned to his childhood classroom with a major announcement: the center has received a meaningful grant from video game publisher NBA 2K and 2K Foundations. This funding is a direct result of a mentorship program for LA youth that Sanders facilitated during the 2026 NBA All-Star Weekend.

A is for Art is rooted in the Reggio Emilia philosophy, where children are viewed as thoughtful, capable learners who express their ideas in many different ways. Through painting, collaboration, exploration and creativity, each project becomes a reflection of the children’s perspectives, interests and experiences.

In our classrooms, art is not simply an activity, it is a way for children to investigate the world around them, build relationships and share their thinking. With support from teachers, families and the community, children are encouraged to take creative risks and bring their ideas to life!

This exhibition celebrates the beauty of the learning process and highlights the meaningful work happening within the Children’s Center every day.

At the SDSU Children’s Center, we know that teachers do far more than guide learning. They help shape the way children see themselves, their relationships and the world around them. Through every conversation, project and moment of curiosity, our educators create meaningful experiences that leave lasting impacts on the children and families in our community.

This week, we celebrated our incredible teaching team with a special shave ice day, generously organized by our wonderful parent community, as a small thank you for the care, creativity, patience and dedication they bring to the classroom each and every day. Their thoughtfulness and support made the celebration even more meaningful.

Rooted in the Reggio Emilia approach, our teachers nurture environments where children are seen as capable, curious and full of potential. Their work inspires exploration and lifelong learning, and we are endlessly grateful for the passion they bring to the Children’s Center.

Thank you to our educators for the difference you make every day, and thank you to our families for helping us celebrate the people who make our community so special!

At the SDSU Children’s Center, we honor the idea that learning is hands-on, child-led and rooted in real experiences. Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach and guided by the belief that children are capable, curious thinkers, we create spaces where exploration leads the way and reflection deepens understanding.

Here, every question matters. Every discovery counts. Every child is seen as a powerful learner.
