Sharing is KIND and GENEROUS, but only when the person with the desired item chooses to share. When the child has control over the situation, they are more likely to show empathy and generosity.
Sharing can be difficult. Forced sharing requires a child to stop what they are doing and give their item to someone else, just because the other person wants that item. Instead of forcing your child to share, bring their awareness to the fact that someone else would like to participate in their play or use what they are using.
Children need opportunities to engage in self-directed, uninterrupted play which helps develop focus, attention span, problem solving, and other skills. Forcing a child to stop what they are doing not only interrupts this, but can create resentment, conflict, and resistance to sharing in the future.
