✍️ MIDDLE SCHOOL MANTRAS✨
As we entered a new year, the middle schoolers spent their first PACT of the new semester reflecting on the power of words and self-talk, and made individual mantras to lean on throughout the year!

What's your mantra?

We have so much to be thankful for - our family, friends, & school community. The Thanksgiving Feast today was so wonderful and we could not have done it without so many volunteers from yesterday's Grandparents Day, all of our family volunteers today, and our very dedicated staff. We are a truly special school community and we could not be more appreciative and grateful for what we have.

We hope you have a safe Thanksgiving break, and look forward to seeing everyone soon!

We loved welcoming grandparents and special guests on campus today for Grandparents Day! Our special visitors got to spend the morning in classrooms with the students and joined us in preparing the food for tomorrow's Feast!

A special thank you to our volunteers who helped make that such a success!

"I look back with a lot of fondness on my years at TCPS. I really enjoyed it a lot. I felt that afterwards I was very well prepared for high school and after that, college. I think that the close relationships that I built with teachers at TCPS has prepared me well for seeking out help from professors in high school and college.

Some of my best memories are from Middle School Camp and the Big Event. I always loved all of the cross-grades activities. I also remember really enjoying History with Mr. Kim."

- Paul Cleary IV, class of 2016

Paul attended TCPS for nine years, kindergarten through 8th grade, and he is currently in his fourth year at Lewis and Clark, majoring in biochemistry.

We gathered as a school community this morning to kick off the TCPS 8th Annual Sock Drive! Please help 3rd grade in supporting The Monarch School. Donations are due by December 1st. There is a special request for black crew and a plain white socks.

Upon entering the Big Hall, each student and staff member received a sock, and everyone had to find the matching pairs. This was a great way to incorporate a cross-aged activity which we value so much at TCPS. ❤️

This year, TCPS will be partnering with HECR (Helping Empower Community Refugees) to help bring supplies and to help organize materials that can be distributed to refugees in San Diego.

This morning, the entire school community got the privilege of hearing from an Afghan refugee about his experiences, as well as a HECR coordinator about ways TCPS can help.

"TCPS was the first school I attended where teachers took a direct, personal interest in my learning. My math teacher, Miss Hock, spent extra time creating problem sets that were right for my skill level. My Spanish teacher, Señorita Sanchez, showed me how my love of food and love of Spanish could unite in the kitchen. By the end of 8th grade, I had a new sense of confidence in myself and commitment to learning. My time at TCPS was a turning point in my educational journey and I’m grateful my mom found it all those years ago. I had no idea what I was walking into, but she did. Now I’m finishing my MBA at Stanford and will return to Boston Consulting Group, to help save wild spaces and drive racial equity across our economy."

We love hands-on learning at TCPS!

On Friday, all of the middle school students got a chance to get their hands dirty after a gardening lesson about fruits, vegetables, and what's best to grow during warm and cool seasons.

We can't wait to watch the cycle of potatoes grow! 🥔🌱

Do you know how many teeth elephants have inside their mouth? Four!

This is one of the awesome facts that the first graders learned during their habitat lesson today while getting to touch a model of an elephant tooth and see a real zebra pelt. The students were amazed, and a little nervous, when Ms. Dew brought the items out to share!

The class is learning about habitats around the world. For each habitat, they'll learn about a human community and an animal community. This week, they are learning about the Savannah and the Masai Tribe in Kenya. For each habitat, the students will add new facts and information into their habitat book!

All week the kindergarteners have been learning about the five senses!

They got a special treat today when Dr. Garcia brought in popcorn for the students to see, touch, hear, smell, and most importantly, taste! After making scientific observations, the students ended the class with popcorn and a movie! 🍿

The 8th graders had their first field trip today, and they successfully completed an escape room! 🎉
There was lots of teamwork, a few screams, and plenty of laughter!

Our Story

For 35 years The Child's Primary School (TCPS) has guided hundreds of San Diego youth on a path to high school, college and beyond that is rooted in a genuine love for learning. We recognize that a student’s journey of learning from the ages of 5-14 isn’t only happening in a school setting with academic content.

TCPS faculty and staff create an environment where students are encouraged and feel safe to take risks, and to strengthen their ability to foster relationships. Connecting students’ experiences in the classroom with the real world is critical. We accomplish this with a creative and expansive curriculum which includes science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) along with the arts (STEAM). We also value our small school environment that gives our students and teachers the opportunity to deepen individual learning experiences, encourage cross age collaboration, and much more.
