As the school year ends, we have the opportunity to reflect on our work and impact.

At TLC, our programming is rooted in community, creativity, and expanding opportunity. We are proud to offer our Family Cooking and Gardening Community Workshops, High School Scholars Program for unaccompanied/housing insecure juniors and seniors, Community Family Arts Workshops, STREAM Lab afterschool programs for refugee/newcomer youth, teacher professional learning for educators who teach underserved and military connected students, and STREAM summer enrichment programs for local historically marginalized children. Together, these programs create meaningful spaces for learning and connection across the communities we serve.

But we cannot do this work alone.

Your support helps us continue offering high quality programming for the communities who need it most, including students, families, and educators across San Diego.

Every donation makes a difference. Help us keep these programs growing 🌱

Last week, our TLC High School Scholars heard from guest speaker and Lucky Duck Foundation Board Member, Ben Schuster, who shared his journey from homelessness to success. His story deeply resonated with our students, many of whom have experienced housing insecurity themselves.

The room was filled with reflection and inspiration as scholars connected to his story and were reminded of their own strength and potential. We’re so grateful to Ben for speaking directly to the resilience we see in our students every day.

Our latest TLC Teacher Party brought together an incredible community of educators to connect, create, and learn together. From celebrating Mel the Mealworm Who Saved the World with authors Rusty Bresser and TLC’s own Caren Holtzman, to exploring meaningful classroom connections and creative follow-up activities, this was professional learning rooted in joy and community.

We loved seeing teachers share ideas, build new relationships, and leave inspired (with a new book in hand).

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made the space so vibrant. More moments like this to come!

Supporting those who support our military-connected students 💙

Through Operation Quest, a grant funded by DoDEA, TLC worked with local elementary educators to facilitate a series of hands-on professional development workshops centered on STREAM + SEL integration. Together, we analyzed student relationships and belonging and engaged in lessons that promoted STREAM learning and collaboration as we explored bubbles, plant characteristics, and engineering/design challenges.

Grateful to support teachers doing this important work here in SD county.

Last month, we welcomed families back for our first Family Cooking & Gardening Workshop of the year and we celebrated Lunar New Year together 🧧✨

From preparing Korean japchae to harvesting and planting fresh vegetables and herbs, the day was filled with hands-on learning, connection, and joy. Families also created beautiful art inspired by the Year of the Horse, bringing creativity and culture together in meaningful ways.

We’re so grateful to everyone who joined us and helped make the day so special.

Our next workshop will take place on April 25th from 10:00–11:30 AM. We hope to see you here. Register at tlcollab.org/events (or link in bio)

Connection is at the heart of our High School Scholars Program.

Last week, our High School Scholars and their mentors spent time together at Define Lagree for a Lagree class and a tasty lunch. Mentors do more than support our scholars’ academics and college/career planning. They support their social-emotional development and their overall sense of well-being. Time spent together like this helps build the trusting relationships that make this support possible!

Thank you to for welcoming our scholars and mentors!
