Motivational Monday 📚
Today we are inspired by the work of Sandra Cisneros.
She was born in Chicago in 1954, the third child and only daughter in a family of seven children. She studied at Loyola University of Chicago, earning a B.A. in English in 1976, and later pursued an M.F.A. in Creative Writing at the University of Iowa in 1978.
Throughout her career, she has held various roles, including that of a teacher and counselor. Additionally, she worked as an artist-in-the-schools, where she taught creative writing at all levels except first grade and pre-school.

Every year for more than two decades, SDCOE and The Department of Dual Language & English Learner Education (DLE) facilitates the dual language conference that gathers experts and practitioners of dual language together from across the county, state, as well as visitors from other states and countries. Themes, topics, and sessions range from research to practice, addressing the needs of teachers, administrators, paraeducators and parents/community members.
DEBER Scholars, please save the date for the 2024 San Diego Dual Language Conference.

The Dual Language and English Learner Education Department (DLE) at San Diego State University, in partnership with the DEBER Project, is hosting the 9th Annual Voice Your Language (VYL) Forum. This free event for students, faculty, local educators, staff, and community members will be held on February 10th from 9:00AM -12:30PM on campus at the Alumni Center. This year‘s theme is “Ethnic Studies and Bilingual Teacher Education” and will include presentations by keynote speakers Dr. Guillermo Gómez, Ethnic Studies Lead Teacher at San Diego Unified School District & Dr. Cati de los Ríos, Associate Professor of Adolescent Literacy and Bi/Multilingual Education at UC Berkeley School of Education. 📚 Project GLAD is a professional learning model that transforms the teaching and learning process. GLAD support teachers on how to make content come alive through sketching, pictures, chants, and media with corresponding language.

Seguimos de Fiesta! The Pachanga is back again and bigger than ever to celebrate the richness of our beautiful community across the globe! This year we celebrate our 4th Annual Pachanga on Thurs.
