Our first grade class presented our monthly character learning trait of EMPATHY by giving us examples from Jesus's life to think about and try to emulate.
We try to build character every day by practicing the different virtues.
It's the best way to become brave, honest, empathetic, etc. Practice, and God's help and grace, will make us better people!
They also sang the song "God Bless America".

Congratulations to these students for their positive leadership on campus! Praiseworthy Padre Awards were given today for students showing the September character trait of "courage". Student names were also chosen from classroom success cards. Those students were seen making good choices, caring for others, and being responsible. We are proud to honor these students!

Fifth graders enjoyed a special visit from author Sherrill Joseph. Over the summer, students read her book:
Nutmeg Street Egyptian Secrets.
Today they learned about her inspiration in writing mystery stories, developing characters and different plots. She explained the writing process and steps involved in publishing a book. It was a fun and informative day. Hoping some of our students publish their own books some day!!

Creation Keepers Club members are tracking plant growth and writing down their observations about Swiss Chard, Carrots, Beans, and Kale that they planted last week. They also mixed compost with the soil to promote more plant growth.
Our club grew out of the Diocesan work done on caring for the
environment, based on the encyclical by Pope Francis titled "Laudato Si:
Care for Our Common Home". If you have not read it, it's very interesting.
You can find it online for free if you are interested!
In the meantime, we are proud of our young people taking responsibility for the environment and our school campus!

In Junior High art classes this week, we were inspired by the American abstract artist and painter Charles McGee from Detroit. He focused on the opposites in nature, in color, and in life. He believed that art was a way to build community and make the world a more beautiful place. Our students did a great job with their interpretations!

8th-grade explored Newton's Third Law (that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction) this week! Through hands-on lab stations, they discovered firsthand that for every force there is an equal force in the opposite direction and students had a lot of fun putting science into action!

Fifth grade enjoyed a very special tour of
St. Didacus Church led by the parish Director of Religious Education, Ms.
Elena Platas. Students learned about the upcoming 100 year anniversary of the church, its namesake Saint, and we also found a relic! The best part was identifying various religious objects and symbols in the church and learning the name and meaning behind each. Our church is truly a beautiful work of art which helps us lift our hearts and minds towards heaven when we pray and celebrate the Eucharist!

Fifth grade scientists created density towers by stacking various liquids.
This helps us better understand how matter is made of particles too small to be seen, particles which either float or pass through other liquids.
Science is fascinating!
