Kelly Derouin is a registered yoga teacher (RYT-200) who received her training at where she currently teaches. She has over 10 years of experience working with kids and designing curriculum that integrates the Arts, Social Emotional Learning, and fun!

🌈Everyone needs a GLITTER JAR!🌈
This is our Mindfulness Craft for this week's Over the Rainbow themed kids yoga camp!

We love watching all the colors swirl around. It's kinda like our minds... full of thoughts and feelings swirling around all over the place, until we're able to settle down and rest. Then, we can watch as the sparkly glitter all settles to the bottom and we're finally able to see clearly.

Yoga brings out our magic!!

This week in our Zoom Summer Sessions we are exploring everybody's Favorite Fairytales and telling magical stories! We may not be able to leave the house much, but we can still explore an enchanted forest, climb a giant beanstalk, and soar through the clouds with just a little bit of yoga and a lot of imagination.

It is so cool to see the students transform from shy and self-conscious at the beginning of the hour to engaged, happy, and relaxed by the end.
As one of our yogi schmogis said, "Yoga is relaxing and it makes you feel good."

What puts the SCHMOGA in Yoga Schmoga??

Well, we believe well rounded kids can have fun learning more than just the physical exercise and breathing practices of yoga. We play games that cultivate calm, critical thinking, cooperation, and empathy. We tell stories that engage our minds and hearts. We make art and music with our hands, bodies, and voices.

Our Summer Zoom sessions will start with group bonding games and a daily yoga practice, but will also include storytelling, theatre games, mindfulness exercises, and finish with a guided relaxation.

BONUS! You'll will also receive an at home activity packet, and we'll record a one-of-a-kind Yoga Presentation which will be shared with all participants and their families at the end of the week!

What your little Yogi Schmogi will get out of our day camps and Zoom workshops is so much more than just yoga.

Did you know that studies show stress and traumatic events early in life have drastic long term effects on a person's mental and physical health? Some of the many benefits of yoga and mindfulness are stress reduction, the cultivation of healthy coping mechanisms, self awareness, empathy, and the ability to express one's feelings and needs.

While we believe these are essential life skills that benefit all children, we also recognize the desperate need to empower children of color and other marginalized communities with these life saving tools.

At Yoga Schmoga Kids Camp, Black lives and the lives of people of color matter. We will work to educate ourselves, to amplify voices of color, to make our services equitable, and to ensure ours is a truly safe space for everyone.

Need to slow and calm down your breath? Little people get overwhelmed with big emotions sometimes, just like grown ups do. Try STARFISH BREATH!
⭐
1. Spread one hand out in front of you.
2. Use your index finger of your second hand to slowly trace up and down the fingers of your starfish.
3. When your finger is tracing UP, Breathe IN.
4. When your finger is tracing DOWN, Breathe OUT.
5. Trace from the bottom of your thumb to your pinky finger and back again.
6. Notice how you feel before and after.
