Drug-induced acute kidney injury (DI-AKI) is a common adverse drug event. The lack of specific diagnostic biomarkers and causality assessment tools poses a challenge in identifying DI-AKI. In this work, the authors conducted a retrospective analysis of DI-AKI cases from the Drug-Induced Renal Injury Consortium study. The analysis revealed that a significant proportion of acute kidney injury risk factors were shared among cases clinically adjudicated as both DI-AKI and not DI-AKI. Through statistical modeling, the authors were able to pinpoint a set of predictors that differentiated DI-AKI cases with good performance. This research contributes to our understanding of DI-AKI and lays the foundation for developing prospective AKI prediction models.
