Congratulations to our Ph.D. student, Erica Gutmann on her first 1st author publication: “One Size Does Not Fit All: Conceptualizing Alternative Data Approaches to Improve Single-Language Developmental Language Disorder Screening for Multilingual Public School Students.”
The takeaway is clear: one-size-fits-all screening models do not serve linguistically diverse students. As multilingual populations continue to grow in schools, this paper provides a timely roadmap for creating more accurate, equitable, and prevention-focused identification systems for children with language needs.
This is an incredible milestone that speaks to her hard work and commitment to making meaningful contributions to our field. Excited to see all that you continue to accomplish, Erica!

Proud of our CORAL Lab students for showing up and showing out at this year’s symposium 🐚 One poster took home the Dean’s Award — and every single one represented what this lab is about: rigorous research in service of real kids and real communities.

October is Dyslexia Awareness Month! Dyslexia affects how people process written language. Impacting reading, writing, and spelling, but it’s NOT related to intelligence. People with dyslexia are just as capable, creative, and driven as anyone else.
At CORAL, we’re dedicated to understanding and supporting individuals with language and literacy differences. Dyslexia is lifelong, but manageable. With the right support, students and adults can thrive in school, work, and beyond.

DLD is a hidden neurodevelopmental condition that affects how children understand and use language. It’s not linked to autism, hearing loss, or intellectual disability, yet it impacts about two children in every classroom influencing learning, literacy, and well-being.
At CORAL, we’re raising awareness this to support understanding and inclusion for individuals with DLD.
