Great research often happens at the intersections.
Across disciplines.

Across departments.
Across ways of thinking.

But cross-disciplinary collaboration does not happen well just because people from different fields are in the same room. It takes shared language, clear expectations, strong communication, and practical strategies for working through the complexity that can come with bringing different perspectives together.

That’s why we’re excited to announce that on October 8, the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) and HigherEd+ will host a joint live webcast featuring the course: Best Practices in Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration.

During this live online session, the full professional development module will be broadcasted and provide an opportunity for participants to engage with the content in real time.

This module is part of the CUR Higher Education Professionals Digital Badge Program and it will explore how faculty, mentors, and students can identify collaborators in complementary fields, adapt more effectively across disciplines, and build stronger collaborations that support research, mentorship, and student success.

Stories are one of the most powerful ways we make career paths feel possible.

Mid-career is often treated like a stage faculty should already know how to navigate.

But in reality, it can raise some of the most important questions of an academic career:
- What do I want to say yes to now?
- Who do I want around me as I keep growing?
- What might be possible if I gave myself permission to try?

That’s why we’re excited to spotlight Aimee LaPointe Terosky, EdD, one of the excellent coaches supporting this fall’s Mid-Career FacultyIGNITE cohort!

Aimee is Associate Dean of the School of Education and Human Development and Professor of Educational Leadership at Saint Joseph’s University. She has spent more than 25 years studying mid-career faculty, faculty development, career management, teaching and learning, and the professional lives of academics.

She is also co-author and co-editor of several important works on mid-career academic life, including A Toolkit for Mid-Career Academics, Success After Tenure, and Bridging the Research-Practice Nexus.

And when it comes to professional development, Aimee often comes back to 3 simple ideas:

“Learn how to say YES.”
⤷ Not to everything. Not to more work for the sake of more work. But yes to the things that energize you, matter to you, and move you toward the academic life you actually want to build.

“You get by with a little help from your friends.”
⤷ Because mid-career faculty do not need to figure everything out in isolation. The right community can offer perspective, encouragement, accountability, and the reminder that you are not the only one asking these questions.

“Why not?”
⤷ Apply. Ask. Try. Reimagine. Reconnect. Start again. Sometimes the next meaningful step begins with giving yourself permission to see what happens.

As a FacultyIGNITE coach, Aimee will support mid-career faculty as they reflect on where they are, what they want to pursue, and how to move forward with more intention.

We’re so encouraged by the feedback coming out of UNCW’s FacultyTHRIVE cohort.

What participants appreciated most wasn’t anything flashy. It was the opportunity to connect with colleagues, reflect with intention, and be part of a supportive structure that made space for growth.
