Hello Fay PTA Members of 2021-22,

It's a new school year and we have an important update. Please read the announcement below and consider renewing your memberships for the 2022-23 school year.

Thanks!
Fay PTA

--------------------------------------------------------
SEPTEMBER UPDATE FROM FAY PTA

Does Fay Elementary have a PTA (Parent Teacher Association)?
We currently do not have enough leaders/members for the 2022-23 School year.
If we want PTA to continue this year, we need your help!

What does the PTA do?
Last year we were able to supply new PE equipment, put on a Book Fair, Mother's Day Fundraiser, and help with Kinder and 5th Grade Promotion treats. Are you interested in providing special events and supplies for the students of Fay this year? Join the PTA!

How does PTA work?
PTA Members have meetings throughout the year to decide what programs to have for the year, make a budget, and plan fundraisers and events.
In order to do that, we need 5 members to lead the executive board (meetings once a month) which include a President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
In addition, we need at least 10 members to attend general association meetings (4 times a year) to approve the budget and provide input.

Back to School Night Raffle! (for new & renewing Members)
Wednesday, September 7, 5-6:30pm
PTA will have a table set up next week on Back to School Night. Join the PTA to enter a raffle to win a $5 Walmart Gift Card, Fay Elementary T-Shirts (adult and child), Tumbler and Coffee Mug.

How to become a member?
Pay only $10 for Membership Dues for the Year. Payment options below:
1. Cash. Fill out a PTA envelope (can be found in the PTA Mail slot in the Front Office) and put it in the PTA Mail slot (or bring to Back to School Night).
2. Credit Card. Pay online: https://jointotem.com/ca/san-diego/fay-pta/join

Dear Fay Families and Friends,

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year at Fay!

We know that there are many questions about the first weeks of school and we are happy to announce that this coming Wednesday, September 7th, we are hosting our Back-to-School Night from 5:00 pm until 6:30 pm. We know that many of you have more than one child attending Fay, so we are asking teachers to do two presentations for parents. There will be a brief welcome back from administration in the auditorium from 5:00 pm -5:15 pm. The first session will be held 5:20 pm - 5:50 pm and then will be repeated 5:55 pm-6:25 pm. Please look for an invitation on your teacher’s Class Dojo. All parents are to come in via Gate 3 which is the 52nd Street entrance.

The Fay PTA will be at Back To School Night and will be giving away a basket full of Fay Elementary goodies to a new PTA member! PTA membership is $10.

Enjoy the Labor Day Holiday - no school on Monday the 5th. Students return Tuesday, September 6th.

August 19, 2022

Dear Fay Friends and Families,

Welcome to the 2022 - 2023 School Year! We are excited to welcome you and your children! Our first day of classes is Monday, August 29th.

Here are some important things to keep in mind as we begin the school year:

Gates open each day at 8:35 am and classes begin at 8:40 am. Parents will have an opportunity to walk students to the classroom.
Dismissal is daily at 3:15 pm except Wednesdays dismissal is at 1:00 pm.
For security reasons all parents will be required to be off campus in the morning by 8:40 am and 3:20 pm.

Morning Drop Off:
UTK, Kindergarten and 1st grade will enter via Gate 1 off 51st Street
2nd and 3rd Grade via Gate 2 behind the auditorium
4th and 5th Grades via Gate 3 off 52nd Street
For families with more than one student please choose one gate that you enter through daily.

For Dismissal:
UTK-Kinder will be dismissed from their classrooms
Grade 1 will be dismissed from the kindergarten playground area
Grades 2-3 will be dismissed from Gate 2.
Grades 4-5 will be dismissed from Gate 3. Students in grades 4-5 are allowed to walk home with permission from their parents.

Please note: ONLY grades UTK and Kinder will dismiss at 1:00 pm. the first week of school.

Currently, wearing a mask is optional except when visiting the nurses office and during weekly voluntary COVID testing. Parents will be notified if this changes. Please keep your child at home if they are showing any signs of illness (cough, sore throat, fever, etc.)

Each day have your child bring to school: a charged laptop, a sturdy refillable water bottle, and a mask.

All students enjoy a free breakfast and lunch daily. These meals are provided free each day to every student. Students are allowed to bring their own healthy lunch. As a reminder there are no “hot” chips, sodas or energy drinks allowed.

Please check Class Dojo and our Fay Website (https://fay.sandiegounified.org/) for monthly event calendars and opportunities to serve on parent committees.
Historically Fay has been a uniform school. This year parents will be surveyed if they would like for this to continue. Uniforms are encouraged but not required. Uniform colors are navy blue or white top and blue or khaki bottoms.

Remember here at Fay, we come to school Ready, Respectful and Safe where together we can do great things.

Kindly,
Principal Gray and Associate Principal Mwereru

Subject: Indoor Masking Required Effective July 18
Dear San Diego Unified Family;
We hope your summer is going well – for those of you enjoying time off as well as those who
are participating in summer school or summer enrichment programs.
As a District, since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been intentional in
implementing strategies to keep our community safe and reduce absences due to illness – all in
service of our students, staff, and community.
Effective Monday, July 18, indoor masking will be required at all schools and District
offices. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 community level according to the CDC and
County data and we will communicate if there are any changes in two weeks.
As a reminder, the District established criteria approved by our Board on May 24, 2022 that, if
reached, would require a return to mandatory indoor masking. This week, one of those criteria
was reached, with San Diego County entering the ‘high’ COVID-19 community level.
All other guidelines and safety mitigation strategies remain in effect, including:
• Encouraging proper hand hygiene
• Enhanced ventilation
• Self-monitoring for symptoms and staying home if not feeling well
• Onsite and at-home testing
If your student is participating in summer school or other summer enrichment program, please
send them to school or their program with a mask. If they do not have one, masks will be
provided. Students and staff will be required to wear their masks while indoors only.
We thank you for your cooperation in our efforts to keep our school communities safe.

Sincerely,
San Diego Unified School District
