If you're a new educator in the State of California, you'll need to clear your Multiple and Single Subject Preliminary Credentials — while also planning lessons, grading papers, and leading day-to-day classroom activities.

Luckily, SDSU has a fully-online Teacher Induction Program with a unique mentorship model that will give you the one-on-one support you need to clear your credential and become a better educator in the classroom.

As a new educator holding a Preliminary California Teaching Credential or a PS-VTW (Variable Term Waiver), you can now clear your Multiple and Single Subject Preliminary Credentials with SDSU’s Teacher Induction Program — a fully online, one-on-one mentoring model program.

Receive the support you need to develop critical skills — which helps increase retention of educators — under the guidance of an experienced mentor.

The SDSU Induction program is 6 units per semester that your district may use towards salary credit. (Check with your district for clarification.) After two years, you will have completed 24 units!!!!

An Induction Program for California Trained Teachers
The SDSU Teacher Induction Program is fully aligned with the new standards for teacher induction programs that were released by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing in 2016. This fully online program is designed to support all Multiple and Single Subject teachers holding a Preliminary California Teaching Credential regardless of their current teaching location. Candidates may teach in public, private, charter, or international schools with diverse populations.

Do you need an online Induction Program?

California Credential Process
1. Hold a bachelor's degree.
2. Earn a Preliminary Credential through CTC requirements, coursework, and student teaching.
3. Start your teaching career with a teaching contract.
4. Earn a Clear Credential by completing an Induction program through your school district, a County Office of Education, or a university partner.
5. Renew your credential every 5 years by paying the CTC required fees. Currently, CTC does not require any additional professional growth requirements for cleared credential holders.

Meet Dr. Laura Craig – SDSU Induction Director [email protected]

Dr. Laura Craig is an alumna of San Diego State University and comes from a family of Aztecs. She has a BA in Liberal Studies, a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and CLAD credential. Also, through SDSU, she earned a M.Ed. and a Reading Specialist Credential. Laura was awarded an Ed.D. with a specialization in Professional Leadership, Inquiry, and Innovation from Concordia University Portland. Her dissertation was on the Attitudes and Beliefs of New Teachers Towards Induction Requirements. Laura’s elementary classroom experience includes teaching in the La Mesa-Spring Valley and Murrieta public schools, serving as Reading Specialist for one of Julian Charter Schools, three years of teaching at the Franconian International School in Germany, and for the past nine years as a first grade teacher and then the Reading Specialist in a private school in Temecula. Laura enjoys helping new teachers with induction through World Campus and works in a variety of capacities for the SDSU School of Teacher Education.
